Phone line was very noisy the other day, too much background hiss to hear anything properly, so a call to BT to log a fault.....

My call answered by an auto system.... "Are you calling from the number you want to talk about?","yes" I say. "What do you want to do?" It asks. "Log a fault" I say, "log a fault" responds the auto system, and without hesitation says "we are testing your line". I wait for a minute or so before the auto system responds " we can't test your line because it is in use, please call back when you're not using it!", then hung up.....

Yes, they really did ...... You couldn't make it up....

I hate BT. I no longer have phone, Tinternet or Line rental from them. I know it all goes back to them eventually but I just cannot use them direct anymore.

Even though I knew what was coming!

How do you expect them to test a line that is in use?
It might have helped for them to say to ring from another phone before they tell you they are testing it when they ask if your ringing from the line you want tested.
I hate BT with a passion and can't stand how they seem to waste your time but a computerised system can only do what the moron that programmed told it to do.

I hate it when we have a broadband issue at work and get the automated response

"Have you tried our online diagnosis service, many common faults can be solved in a few simple steps"

I WOULD IF I COULD GET ONLINE YOU BLOODY TWERP

"Ok then NMW - I'm Swings It - let's try a few things and get you sorted. Are you near your phone wall socket?"

NMW: "yes"

"Ah you are - OK then - good - let's first try unplugging your phone - if you can do that for me now"

NMW unplugs phone lead from wall socket.

Phone: "Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......"

NMW sits with phone in hand and bemused look on face.

I found the best way to get anything done with BT is to go via the complaints dept. Also if you want to avoid the automated system it sometimes help to either not select any option on your keypad or go for a number they don't mention. This tactic usually gets you connected to a human.
