I have just purchased a Callaway diablo 15 degree neutral wood to replace my Callaway fusion 3 wood ( now for sale in for sale section). However, i have straight away been hitting more accurate shots off the deck to about 200-210 yards. When i hit a good drive i get 230 (winter) but it is so hit and miss at present i have started thinking maybe replace it with a Diablo 13 degree wood and swap my 15 for an 18 to fit between the 13 and my hybrid.

I will give it some time before making a decision to give the driver a chance, maybe a lesson on driving would help instead of the iron based lessons i have had in the past. All shots with Diablo fairway have been on the range off the mat so far.

Opinions pls. Oh and yeah i do like the look of the Diablo but not sold on the irons.

Hiya James,

For me 30 yards shorter on the fairway versus 30 yards longer but in the rough is a no brainer. I`d take the 3 wood off of the tee every day.

No better than sticking one down the middle and striding off the tee box (sometimes  )

All the best,

Its up to you but if you get more control with the 3 than your driver then it makes sense to use it off the tee. However I think it will help your game in the longer term to find a way of getting to like your driver again so you don't put too much pressure on yourself on the longer par 4's and par 5's

Wait until you have played with it on the course. The trouble with hitting off range mats, is that they are very forgiving. A heavy shot off the mats, and the club still gets through the ball.

Jim, before splashing out on a strong 3 wood, consider having the shaft in your driver chopped down a little. The shorter shaft should give you more control, whilst the distance loss will be negligable. Get it done properly and if you can notice a swingweight difference (which is unlikely) then you can pop some lead tape back on the head.
