Destined to never break 100 again...

I had a nightmare 2013, full of 0.1's in comps and rarely better in roll ups. I knew what I was working towards and what I wanted to do but just couldn't do it. This year is already showing signs of being much better. If you are suffering from the same bad shots, especially off the tee I do think a lesson(s) are worth investing in as there is clearly an issue somewhere in the technique

Try not to let it get you down. Easier said than done I know but if you relax and just play then I'm sure it'll click again.

Don't count your score, play stableford and just put down points on your scorecard, And let someone else keep score, so that your not thinking about it.

Welcome to the club, after todays absolute meltdown including the yips, air shots and god knows what else I am about ready to bin the clubs and take up tiddlywinks!

For me its mental, once the head goes it just goes from bad to worse, the trouble is I will go to the range tomorrow and probably hit it well. My biggest issue is getting to quick and armsy, no commitment to the shot due to over thinking technique leading to no technique whatsoever.

If it wasnt for a few good holes early doors and a couple towards the end I would jack it in, but being a stubborn git I shall persevere.

lol i know, got past all that now and really couldnt give a monkies if people dont follow back etc, its not a popularity contest is it!!

Why would people not want to read tweets about dumplings & flappy bird??? It's a strange world

For 2 years I have been trying my best to get better at this game, for a short period last year I thought I had cracked it with at 99 and a 94. However since then I have not even come close to breaking 100. I thought it may be that my driver was costing me shots as I am expert at finding the rubbish off the tee, so I have dropped that from the bag, now take a 5w and find the fairway but have the lost the ability to hit anything like a respectable approach shot. I can't seem to string 2 good shots together on a hole, I have tried everything from trying attacking golf, to trying to play 5 golf, and I still fail. I play to have banter with my mates, but I want to score OK as well it's not fun losing every week.

I am 23 handicapper I appreciate that I am not a world beater, but surely I should be able to find some consistency? My scorecards are laughable, anything from 3's to 12's.

Anyone want to buy some JPX EZs just about ready to give up :(

Rant over.

I no how you feel mate, not about breaking 100 so much but it going badly.Without going into great detail last July I shot a PB of 80 (a one off ) was consistently getting high 80's/low 90's.Havent had a particulary good winter but was on holiday recently in Gran Canaria played very well....since returning Ive had 2 only 2 good games in approx. 16/18 games.....scores have crept up from high 90's into the 100's with a nightmare 108 on Wednesday gone where several times I wanted to walk off but didn't.
Its the worst period/time I'm going through in golf......just a nightmare,so I no how your feeling.
Cheers
Kev

I'm in a similar position after taking up the game about 2 years ago. I was in the 120's at the start with rounds littered with duffs and lost balls with the occasional par which kept me going. Gradually with lessons and practice my scores came down and last year broke 100 a couple of times. However, those were a bit of a 1 off and now my scores on a particular course have been between 104 and 106. So i've decided to take golf a bit more seriously and splashed out on membership at my nearest 18 hole course and so i will have to play a lot and use its short game practice area a lot to get my moneys worth. My first round on it with no prior knowledge of the course i scored 104 which i was chuffed with.
Scoring Stableford points instead of strokes is a good tip and when i play socially with my mates, i never add my score as i'm going and add it up in hte clubhouse or even at home afterwards as i know if i knew i was on say 95 with 1 hole left to play i would collapse like an England middle order and probably get something like an 8.
SO now i've got a new club membership to look forward to and playing in roll ups and comps and with lots of practice and actually playing rounds, i expect i will break 100 consistently over the summer as my course management and short game improves.
Keep at it and good luck.

I've been the same - floating around the 102-106 per round! Hoping to kick on this summer! Got to get 3 cards in to get my handicap and just play, practice and get lession!

Feeling your pain mate, my confidence in teeing off is that low that I'm down to a 5 iron now. Normally at the range I'm ok, but on Tuesday I was even slicing a 9 iron! I've that many swing thoughts going through my head it's untrue. Then to cap it all I watched the drive, chip, putt from Augusta and realise I'm being out driven by 9 year olds!!
Having said all the above, I'm doing 9 holes tomorrow and cannot wait.

9 Iron I see you are a member of Royston, played it numerous times, great course. A real inland links/downs. Can be brutal when the rough gets up in the summer or when the wind blows in the winter. I remember playing there a couple of Christmas's ago with my Dad. I was back from HK for Christmas. Stood on the first tee 480 yard up hill par 5. Wind straight into the face heavy heavy rain wearing 2 pairs of trousers and 4 tops thinking what the hell am I doing out here. Went driver hybrid 4 iron all hit well just to get greenside!

Best advice I've been given and really does help. Being in the same boat, another piece of advice recieved is play someone of the same level as you (or worse) so your competivness makes you concentrate, may save you 10 shots a round.
