How old am I?

I was lucky enough to get 4 second row tickets for Deep Purple at the O2 at the end of November when they went on sale this morning. They are appearing with a 38 piece orchestra and I cant wait already!

Well, perhaps I can, with all that lovely golf waether until then!

Has anyone else ever heard of them or am I the oldest person here (apart from dear old Leftie)

Chris

Not my cup of tea but heard of them, of course, doesn't everyone know...

Duh duh duuuuh duh dudud duuuuh duh duh duuuh duduuuuh?

Ahh, never was any good at music. :D

You are not alone Chris!

Of course I've heard of Deep Purple. Classic 70's rock band.
Slightly before my time, but I've heard many of their tunes and do own an album of theirs.

Smoke on the Water, written after their experiences at the Montreaux Music Festival.

Fireball, Speed King, Burn. All good stuff. Never did like the organ music that much though, however Jon Lord was a good keyboard player.

HeHeHe :) :)

Nah! They were a bit too late on the scene for me - and too loud and too heavy.

Favourite haunt was The Star at Broad Green watching "Slowhand" Clapton over the years - Yardbirds, Bluesbreakers, and finally headbanging with Cream. Not only was Clapton mindblowing, but Jack Bruce was a great bass player, vocalist and harp player. Ginger Baker - well he must have been on an awful lot of something. Had to be seen to be believed.

I wish I had seen Cream but I did see Clapton at the Albert Hall playing a blues concert once and also saw the John Mayall Bluesbreakers just a few years back

My old boss used to play in a tribute band called Cheap Purple :D

No comment Richard!

Bye the way - thanks for the info on the Go Kart last week ... I went and got one from their factory on Wed and it looks pretty good on my Wed pm round! Cheers

Chris

I see they're at the secc in Glasgow in November... might be tempted. No Jon Lord on keyboards though, is he deid?

It was believed that Ginger had an extra arm hidden away as som of the rolls and fills he came up with just were not possible with 2 drumsticks.....

Purple must need Zimmer frames to get on stage these days mustn't they..? Gillan, Paice and Glover must be well into their 60's... Bet they wont be running around much - well Ian Paice wont anyway :D

Got no time for those modern bands myself, for me the music died about 1970. Del Shannon, Buddy Holly, Bob Dylan,The searchers, Beatles and the Stones. Mersybeat and Phil Spectors "wall of sound" That's what you call music.
Deep Purple, BAH! bloody kids these days have got no taste. :D

Your older than you think Mick, deep Purple was formed in 1968! a year after I left school.

Chris

Saw them in May 74 at Coventry - last gig of their UK tour that year. I was just a spotty 13 year old headbanger - when I came out my senses were numb. A real heavy metal band in a largish theatre what an experience.

At the time there was no bigger heavy metal band - they were on a par with Led Zep.

Fantastic Drummer with Cream and beyond. Listen to his drumming on Masters Of Reality's classic album "Sunrise on the Sufferbus"

Deep Purple are wanting £50 a ticket for a band without Ritchie Blackmore or John Lord. That would be like going to see Justin Bieber without Justin Bieber in the "band", assuming that you were criminally insane and therefore a JB fan.

Yup, weird. I mean, what is that hat all about?

To be fair, I was never their greatest fan. There was so much good music in the 60's and 70's that I liked and saw. It is just that there is the chance to see these legends of music that it is a "must do. I saw Ozzy a little while back and he still puts on a great show and, after all, its only one evening out of my life so even if its cr*p , what the heck!and I only paid £55 for the ticket and not the £200+ that they are on Ebay for.

The missing members dont really concern me as the formation of the band changed a number of times as they were apt to do over the years, but its still Deep Purple as far as I am concerned
