Does anyone else think there should be a dedicated golf sky channel just like the new F1 channel? And what does everyone think should be on there? (Besides the obvious PGA and european tour events)

If my memory serves me correct golf channel was available in the uk but was taken off . Really shouldn't have. As well as PGA and euro golf it had big break and other shows etc.

I'd like to see a Faldo hour, maybe even a Faldo day on a golf channel, with biography, full instruction section, anecdotes, behind the scenes etc etc:thup:

same courtesy for other greats in the game.

Think the golf channel is still active but broadcast in states afaik

I know the golf channel used to be available in the UK a few years ago, but i think a modern Sky golf channel will be more successful than that due to the recent success of British golfers

They don't really need a dedicated F1 channel, but the reaction to them winning the rights was so negative they needed to do something to appease the F1 fans/set their coverage apart from the BBC's award winning coverage.

Yes, there are a lot of repeats, but it's great if you missed the race live as it's repeated a lot.

Plus all the little shows are pretty informative (The F1 Show).

And the Race Coverage blows the Beeb's out of the water (and I was a huge fan of the Beeb's coverage last year).

A similar golf channel would be ace. But sadly would probably mean more Mark Roe on our screens :(

We will have to agree to disagree on the race coverage. Brundle & Kravitz aside they've got nothing.....but this isn't an F1 forum so i won't go on!

There isn't enough stuff to justify it's own channel. If there was a golf channel it would be far far less repetitive.

A golf channel would be much better and more worthwhile than an F1 channel in my opinion. F1 races last 4 hours at the most, whereas theres at least 5 or 6 four day golf tournaments a week!

The old 'golf channel' was free, even after I stopped sky the channel was still available using the free card.

If sky decided to make a dedicated golf channel I doubt they would make it available separately, as it would reduce their profits...at the moment anyone that wants to watch the golf must subscribe to all the sports channels as they move it about !

As well as the obvious coverage of the main tours it would be nice to see a good amount of the Europro Tour and some of the bigger amateur events around the country. How about coverage of some of the many charity events that are held regularly across the country and some of the newspaper backed events.

Some time ago there used to be a program on one of the cable channels where Tim Brook-Taylor visited golf courses around the country. Something like this could be very interesting.

Finally there could be a good amount of quality instruction based programs which would, I am sure, be well received by the people who don't like to have lessons. Maybe Bobmac could get a slot with his V thingy teaching putting.

:D I agree with a golf channel being a better bet (especially as it's essentially an all year round sport now). I like the fact they've managed to bring in the likes of Johnny Herbert for insight and analysis. I do miss Coultard though, he still does a great job for the Beeb. Eddie Jordan is becoming unbearable though!

I think there's loads that they could show on a dedicated golf channel. You've obviously got the relative tours plus the feeder tours. Then you've got the Ladies golf tours and feeder tours.
There could be player profiles where you learn about the player, his caddy, coach, what's in his bag, etc.
There could be the trick shot specialists as well.
There could be a rules programme where various scenarios are played out and then rulings given and explained.
There could be instructional programmes featuring top coaches and players alike giving advice.
There could be course reviews but where cameras actually show the course, the clubhouse, the employees, etc and someone is filmed playing it and then reports accordingly. This, of course, would require editing.
There could also be equipment reviews but I'm not sure how this would sit from an unfair advertising perspective as some viewers would think that certain brands were favoured over other brands.

There could also be a 'Soccer AM' style golf show. It's content would be light hearted in much the same vain as Soccer AM with special guests, etc. They could do silly things like get two touring pros to 'battle' over say three holes of a top course where they can only use their wedges and a putter. They'd be hitting a wedge 200 yards!

As I've said previously, SKY Sports isn't for me but if they broke it down into individual sport channels then I'd get involved.

There can only be a dedicated golf channel if the golf manufacturers make more, better adverts and change them frequently. I cannot put up with much more Callaway in Vegas.....

Oh don't start me on those damn adverts, if I see Quiroz smashing 360 yard drive or Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey doing some really cheesy high fives, I'll go nuts.
