Just returned from a society weekend at Wychwood Park and thought I would share my experiences with you.
First the Golf - Friday was forecast to be rain throughout and we were worried about the course being open - but to our surprise there was no real issues a little standing water on the first and some parts of the course were a bit moist underfoot. The course itself was in very good condition and the greens although not that receptive considering the rain we had ran true. This is not a course for beginners 2 holes in particular would frighten the life out of a beginner the 7th a par 5 which involves a carry of over 150yds over some protected habitat and the 15th which is a dogleg right par 4 that also involves a carry of approx 150yds over water - not for the feint hearted.
While the course was well presented don't expect a round to take less than 5 hours - the distance you have to walk between some of the holes can only be described as long as the course winds through a rather exclusive housing estate, although unlike Collingtree Park there is little likelihood of putting a ball in someone's conservatory.
In all the course is a good resort course that is a challenge - even off the yellows. You have to think your way round this one.
The Hotel - whilst adequate for the weekend the room was in need of some TLC, Old style TV that struggled to show a clear picture, a shower screen with half the bottom seal missing meaning a flood every time you had a shower. Worst thing for us though was the length of time between each course at dinner. Sat down for a 3 course meal at 8.30 almost 10 before we finished, however the food quality was superb. The hotel was really busy but just seemed understaffed for the number of guests at meal times.
If you are looking for a good weekend venue then do consider Wychwood Park but just don't expect a quick round.
