D-day

What also makes me proud is that we still have boys of their calibre who have fought so bravely in more recent conflicts.

He must have been a very brave man, amongst other very brave men.

My father was a spitfire pilot, but never went to reunions as the majority of his mates were killed during the war. He flew photo reconnaissance in Mosquitos, and he only found out his best mate and navigator had been shot and killed when he landed. No wonder he never wanted to speak about the war.

Just so many heroes that should never be forgotten.

That he was richart, that he was, as were indeed many more.

Fantastic, the staff tell him he can't go but he goes anyway, as you say the fighting spirit is alive & well!

Absolute heroes every single one.
The vast majority younger than my Son.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them".

Here in this grave yard that is still no mans land
The rows of white crosses in mute witness stand
To mans great indifference to his fellow man
And a whole generation lies butchered and damned.

Simply we will never know what they went through so we can live the lives we live today

Love the story of the 89 year old who escaped from his care home to travel to Normandy,
Brilliant,you can't kill that spirit 👍

Yet despite that, some of the people whose freedom they fought for still consider them fair game;

My true thoughts in this piece of work would see me banned for life!

Wrong war (as was Smiffy's excerpt) - but the same message.

Demonstrates how little we actually learn from History!

I've actually seen the plaque with the excerpt that Smiffy quotes at the place where it was composed. I was pleased I played (St Enedoc) earlier in the day as I was a complete wreck after visiting the site (one of the few National Trust sites my wife didn't have a fight with them about hunting!).

Different war, same message.
