Joined GM forum today. Finally decided to get some decent clubs but not sure the best place to go. I am using an old set of ping irons, G10 driver and a old Ping persimmon 5 wood!! I live in Devon and would love to go to Gainsborough but anybody know anywhere closer that has great set-up like them?

Ask at some local Pro Shops, quite a few are able to custom fit for you, and probably have the neccesary jig for changing lofts & lie etc.

Thats all they do at Gainsborough, albeit they do have Launch monitors too, which are particularly useful for telling you how much further you are hitting the G10 you just also asked to try, seeing as it was there waiting for you to pick it up.

lol. To be honest, they are great to visit, I reccomend it.

I recommend going to a real outfit, I went to the Belfry recently and has a fitting. they have every club, brand and shaft under the sun, a great experience.

one of the clubs I tried was exactly the same except for the make of stiff steel shaft, and one went 10 yards further than the other on a constent basis.

After that experience I would never buy off the shelf again

There are a number of different fitting centres around the country (ping in Gaisnborough, Cally in Chessington etc) but your local pro should be able to help in terms of loft and lie even if he doesn't have a magnitude of shafts to try.

Some of the AG's etc offer a custom fit service with launch monitors to show you your figures etc but if possible try and hit balls on a range rather than in a shop bay so you can see flight and direction for yourself.

The Belfry I think has most of the top names attached to its fitting centre so if you have a make in mind you can book a session. Its probably one of the best places to go to get to try as many as possible in one go
