custom fitting

Well why bother getting a machine to tell you what you already know?

The marketing men have got you hook lne and sinker which perhaps makes you as stupid as the rest of us stupid people?

The bottom line is the folks doing it are looking to sell new sets of irons - it's about making money.

You spend it if you wish, many of us would see CF as unnecessary.

The guys have explained that handicap golfers swing the club differently day to day so what the machine reads one day wont be the same as the next. Some days we hit it great some days we hit it awful - you dont know which way you'll be hitting it when you visit the CF centre.

Obviously handicap players' swings are more variable, but you surely know that many players use unsuitable clubs which will never suit any of the variations they exhibit? Also, there are plenty of players with habitual faults which can be mitigated with better fitting. OK, not every single swing will be exactly the same, but that is not a reason for completely abandoning the whole concept.

I work in a world where I process scientific data, and I also encounter plenty of marketing, so I am quite well informed on both aspects, thanks.

I do, however, know that my driver distance, ball flight and accuracy have improved since getting fitted properly. It didn't cost me any extra.

ok we've had our say, be interesting to hear how the OP gets on with his CF regardless.

Hi Chipsandegg
I went through the whole CF set up with an independent. I spent about £1200 and had no big brand names in my bag. I got KZG - which are big in the states apparently.

When my game is on, I get great results with them but when it's off it's awful.

I stoppped using them and now use my Hogan Apex irons, which I just love the look and feel of, which I think plays a bigger part to those of us with swings that aren't always the same.

I picked the Hogan irons up off of ebay and got a bargain.
I love the MP67's too...very nice looking club.

Welcome weekendgolfer(s)

Interesting post....that's some way to kick off.....you've sidelined a C/F set for Hogan Apex blades? You must be either very good or very mad :)

Either way, you'll be OK on here.

I'd like to have a crack with some clubs like the Apex....just to see what happens when it goes wrong!!!

Again, welcome.

If you get proper custom fit by a independant fitter you will see results

I had a driver built and it changed my game from long and wayward to hitting 3-4 more fairways a round

If you can get a shaft that works for you any club can work well

909D3, Matrix Code 6
TEE XCG, Oban Revenge
585H, Matrix Altus
MP62 black nickel 4-PW, PX
TM Z-TP, KBS 52, 56
Bettinardi DASS

Ethan - I agree wholeheartedly with what you say, but your sig looks like something off the Matrix!!!

I go with this 100%.

I wanted to try some W/S clubs fitted with proforce V2 reg.
I tested them on a vector machine and was amazed at the accuracy. Even the fitter couldn't quite believe how (having played down my game) I was hardly off line.

I now have all but 3 wood in the same shaft. I'm sure there are others that would work too but I just felt good about the proforce.

1st game out with the hybrid, I hit every green and fairway (short holes or lay-ups)....you can't ask more than that.

IMO unless you are of unusal size or shape or play of less than 3, I wouldn't bother the difference it will make will be negligible, you would be better off spending the extra cash on lessons.

shaft flex - if your hooky high and left they're too soft.
shaft length - if you're tall or short get long or short shafts, half inch either way.

Thats me at the moment. Bought a used set of mp67's with r300 shafts. Hitting them hooky & left when struck with my normal swing speed but straight when i slow down my swing.

so I just bought a set of s300 shafts (pulled from callaway set) off ebay for 45 euro. They arrived this morning & Il be getting fitted this weekend hopefully so bye bye hooky iron shots (hopefully) :D

Il post a CF review then.

Would I get custom fitted again????
I don't think so.
Although my trip to Mizuno was very informative and didn't cost me a penny....and there was no "push" to buy, I think the next time I buy a set of irons I will just spend more time looking at what's out there and take my time to hit a few different makes. I agree that it's the shaft that is important. I was playing with Callaway X18's with S300 shafts in them when I first joined the forum, a set which I stupidly purchased off of an ebay seller without even trying them. I bought them because I thought that I couldn't go wrong with a set of Callies. How wrong was I? The shafts were like girders, I couldn't hit the bloody things to save my life.
Despite what anybody else says, I am a firm believer that if a club looks good then as long as I get a shaft that will suit my swing I will hit it. I think confidence is the key to any club purchase and the first thing that gives me confidence is the actual look of the club.
But I won't be going the custom fitted route again....

I have had my driver custom fitted, and it is the best driver I have owned. Simples. Would recommend the same to anyone with a half repeatable swing.

I had my irons and hybrid c/'ed too. Now I can't say that has made a massive difference. I can hit S300 or R300 shafts exactly the same as I have borderline swing speed. I have them 2 degrees up, which has made no difference at all, and they are 1/2" longer, which is marginally more comfortable, but a short iron is still short, and a long iron still long.

Would I go again? No. Would I buy using the same spec? Yes, it would be daft not to.

If I change my 5w, would I get c/f again. Maybe. It doesn't cost anything, and it would be good to get the best fit graphite shaft for my swing.

Do I play better? No. The 6 inches between my ears is still the limiting factor. Always has been.
