As a follow up the " The Custom Fitting Conspiracy " thread does anyone know of a reputable custom fitting centre in the North West which has the following,

(a)...A fitter who will advise you on what equipment is best for you on what he sees and not driven mainly by how much you are willing to spend.

(b)...Most manufacturers equipment can be tested and advised upon.

(c)...no obligation to buy.

(d)...who charge a small or no fee which will be deducted from any sale made.

The only place I can think of is the Mizzy fitting centre at Wrexham but would be interested in what other reputable fitters are available in this North West so I can make a comparison on their advice given!!!

Gareth benson golf in astley (just off the east lancs road) has received some good reviews.. look for it on google. it does mizzy, titleist, cobra and taylor made.. i might be able to let you know more tomorrow as ive just booked an hour lesson with him.
oh, and the balls are hit into a range, rather than into a screen.. much much better in my opinion..

That looks like a place worth a vistit :)

Do you know how much he charges for a fitting as I live near Chester but dont mind the travelling?

I dont know mate. give him a bell tomorrow to discuss your options. Like I said, ive never used him for custom fitting, but people i know have and they say that its a very good experience. Im pretty sure there is a small charge, but that the charge is taken off the cost of any irons purchased..He has a good rep as a coach too (which should help as my game has gone to pot since i went on holiday)..

If you don't mind the travel - and it's not too far from Chester - then the Belfry might be the place. It's only at the London end of the M6 Toll road - just over an hour away?

They have plenty of choice.

This had piqued my attention... why the Belfry, is it that good?

For me based in the North East it'd be a good couple of hours to get there but I do like a day out, when it's to benefit me

Griff have you not tried Foregolf on Sealand road?

They have a vector launch monitor, a number of qualified pro's, lots of different equipment and a decent driving range.

I was fit for my Driver and 3 wood there. No complaints!

Forgolf Sealand Road,Chester,Can fit anything,Drivers,Irons.
Charge £25.00 for the fitting session, but you get that back if you buy..

Haven't had a custom fit but have heard a lot of good things about the Belfry, supposdely one of the best fitting centres in the country

Yes I have been to Foregolf in Chester some time back for an iron fitting and the first question was how much do you want to spend.

I explained that if it was the right equipment for me I was very flexible on the cost....needless to say they pushed all the high end stuff at me and when I tried to explain that I wanted the whole range of equipment tested they did not want to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ended up later trying my mates standard off the shelf R9's for a couple of rounds which I liked and enjoyed using so he sold them to me for half the price he paid as he really did not like them and now I am just into a single figure handicap :)

Clubhouse golf is good and has lots of stock in to try.

Clays golf centre in Wrexham also has a great set up and whilst its a Mizuno national fitting centre, the store has all the gear to fit other makes as well.

When I went for a fitting at Foregolf in Chester a while back they told me that the £25 would only be taken off the purchase price of the irons if I ordered there and then the same day!!!!

Yes, I have seen that many people on here have been to the Belfry fitting centre and it must be worth a visit and like you say it is not all that far away from me :)

Andy Bridgewood at ClubhouseGolf will sort you out. They do all the major manufacturers.

But I would say that seeing he's my son.

Failing that try the set up near Penketh, Warrington. Can't remember what they call the place but I got measured up there about 5 years back. They also do all the major manufacturers.

Another shout out for Clays in Wrexham. I've heard very good things about them and not just for Mizuno gear either.

I agree with you Griff, I'm not a fan of Foregolf either. I got fitted there for my irons, but the whole sales pitch was pretty unbearable. When I said I wanted to think about it they got a bit narky with me. A bit naive at the time, but knowing what I know now, I wouldn't go back there again.

Can you remember who you were with?

This wasn't the case at all for me. They asked my budget and I refused to say. I told them I wanted to try everything (within reason) and I would make up my mind once I was satisfied with the stats.

I was also told I could hold on to my reciept from the fitting untill I made the purchase which Is what I did.

Not a clue who did the fitting for me but I guess it boils down to who you get to do your fitting!!!!!!

One thing for sure after spending £25 for that experience they wont be getting another penny out of me and from the replies on this thread there would certainly appear to be far better places to spend my time and money :)
