I bought a new Adams super hybrid today after trying it out indoors on the screen and tried it out on the course about 1 hour later. Love it but got to thinking about custom fitting and wether it is worth it. When I was learning I used to go to the acadamy every week and the pro teaching could take anybody's club and do a perfect shot every time with any sort or club. Doesn't this prove that it's not the club in your hands but how you hit it.

In the pro's case, yes but then he's got how many thousand hours practising and how many thousand balls hit?
for the average punter, doesn't it make more sense to give yourself all the help you can - especially when cf doesn't cost any more?

I'm with viscount on this. If you plan to get new clubs then custom fit tends to be free so why not get it done.

As to the benefits of custom fitting for MOST amateurs, I'm still not convinced. Some benefit, possibly, more likely to improve you're game than a few lessons with your current set. I doubt it.

By MOST I mean unless you are freakishly Tall\Short or have an insanely quick\slow swing speed etc. i.e. Way outside the norms.
