Curious question ? Blades

Tends to be more low handicappers that use them. However no reason why a mid or even high handicapper cannot use them, for example they might be good ball strikers but have a poor short game. No set rule really. I use blades and really do think they help to inprove your game, they make you swing better as anything less than a good strike goes nowhere, unlike the GI clubs where you can hit it right out the toe and still get a good shot away.

Are blades predominantly used by low handicappers? Or would mid handicappers be able to use them

This is always the million dollar question that is posted on Forums......You'll get heaps of replies and Pro's and cons for each.........
If your Iron play is strong then Yes you could easily play them....If your a weak iron player then you'll be better off with something than will help.....
The COG in Blades is usually higher on the face and the sweet spot is fairly small.... So you need to be hitting the ball pretty well to take advantage.....

That being said the days of carrying Blades around in your bag just because you can say to people i play Blades are long gone...More and more players are starting to see the benefits of more forgiving Irons.......

Its really a personal choice.....If you have a decent swingspeed and a decent swing then there is no reason you couldnt play them.....
Im off 14 but my iron play is good....What i play are considered a players type Iron with a small Cavity for the help on the off days.....
Their more of a middle ground really....Nice and compact if you dont like the look of a Toaster on the end of a stick but still retaining a little forgiveness....

Take a few demo 6 irons out and see how you get on with them.......

On a side note...There is no shame in playing GI Irons......Even they are used on tour these days....Its whatever gets the ball on the green.

Cheers for the info was maybe going to purchase a second hand set from our pro, my iron play is strong, ill see about playing a couple of rounds with them this coming week

I see nothing wrong with anyone carrying bladed wedges and shorter irons, really useful in getting the control around and to the greens.

I would suggest anyone at least considers getting some help with the mid and long irons (if anyone still carries long irons any more!).

I am considering dropping my 47* PW for a bladed wedge, it seems a move a lot of people are making at the moment.

Blades make the most of good consistent ball striking where other clubs would not.

Dont know that model. Only know the last couple of blade sets they have brought out and they were nice. Only you will know if they are any good for you not what anyone else says

Nike VR swoosh if that helps, I don't know much about nike clubs, that was written on the tag. Ill take them out and prob shank them everywhere ;-)

I have a set of golfsmith blades and a set of l i15's'. When Im playing well, it makes no difference which is in my hand. If i'm not hitting it so good, then that is where you see the difference. The pings still go somewhere near where I was aiming, the blades fall about 3 clubs short and go nowhere.

There is an argument that high handicappers should use blades to become better ball strikers.

Having not believed the ego-driven 'blades are better' stories - I was using 'player cavity' MP30s at the time and dropping rapidly - I acquired a set of TP9s to use for practice. After 3 hits I was addicted and have had 3 other sets of blades since (Miura, MP37 and Vega). There is no better feeling than a well struck 4-iron blade. Actually, if you hit it well, there is no feeling; if you hit it badly, you can't feel anything for a couple of minutes!

However, I play golf for enjoyment, so the pleasure of hitting it well occasionally outweighs any desperation of scoring well. And trying to hit a ball from wet 2nd cut rough with a blade any higher than an 8 is not on. I believe my Combo set isn't so much a compromise as demonstrating the advantages of both styles.

I believe everyone should try all styles and find the one that suits them best - for their particular goals. And there can be some clubs that just hit the spot for loads. In my club-ho era, the MX23/25 really worked.

Ah right the VR model. Nice them, a pal of mine has them and they are really nice. They are not as hard to hit as you think, dont get me wrong you have to make a good swing to get a nice shot away but the sweet spot is not the size of a pin head or anything like that.

Just wondering. When people off mid-high handicaps say they use blades with no problem, is their putting that bad? Could a more forgiving club save them shots...even as little as 2-3 shots a game?

I really like the look of blades but would rather have a bit of forgiveness.

Could be their chipping and pitching is bad as well as their putting or even all 3. I do not feel for me as though my irons are costing me any shots in fact they have improved my game. They really do make you swing it better than GI clubs as you know anything less than a good strike will be punished

Maybe its just there long game thats a bit up and down.......I can hit an Iron as good as any low handicapper....But stick a driver in my hand and im all over the shop....Recently though since the lessons i think that this season maybe about to change all that for good......Here's hoping.

Would they have less chips and pitches if they hit a decent iron shot? Don't need to answer that I'm just kidding. People should absolutely use whatever they want.
