Obviously hard to understand as its based on scores at certain holes, well so i have been told.

Played yesterday in the rain and heavy wind,my playing partner struggled round and managed to shoot 1 under nett which would have got him a cut, only to find out the css had dropped down a stroke.lol.

That was with only 2 nett scores under par lol

Why do we play this game :P

The CSS calculation is done with respect to the proportion of the field who shoot SSS+2 or better having ignored category 4 players. The number of really good scores is irrelevant as a nett +2 counts just the same as a nett -7 in the calculation. If the CSS went down then despite the weather players were obviously scoring quite well overall. Maybe the bad weather wasn't all day or pehaps there were just a lot of easy pins etc.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

CSS is pointless and this is a perfect example of why.

CSS has nothing to do with conditions or the difficulty of the course. It is entirely based on the inconsistency of club golfers.

I'm glad it's not just me!

I played a midweek medal at our place a few weeks back in a howling gale. And I mean a howling gale - made all the worse by the fact that our course is really exposed despite being inland.

I shot 6 over playing off 10, none of the remainder of the field knocked it round under their handicap, and I thought "Happy Days - single figures here I come!".

You can imagine how gutted I was to find that CSS was two under the course par and SSS, and I only lost 0.4 leaving me on 9.7.

CSS can only go down 1 below SSS, if your club has gone down more then you need to ask questions.

Totally agree. Rubbish concept

The concept is actually pretty good, just doesn't seem to work properly in practise at a mid club level.
CSS seems to work better in County events or events where mainly cat1 players are, guess thats due to weather effecting them all in a similar way.

If everyone had a proper handicap then the CSS would work properly at all levels.

By proper I mean a true reflection of their playing ability at that time. As we all know the H/C system can take a little time to catch up with people who are improving and a lot longer to catch up with people who are going backwards.
