Was out shopping with the Missus, and she has been going on about one of these new "netbook" thingies. So we popped in to our local PC World to see what they had.
She didn't want anything too expensive, and spotted a nice little Acer jobbie in a fetching shade of pink. "I like that" she said, so me being Mr Generous said I'd buy her one. Spent ages waiting for an assistant (shop was packed) but eventually tracked down a spotty faced individual who was free.
"Excuse me" says I, "my wife would like one of those pink Acer netbooks. Have you got one in stock?"
"Errr...no, we haven't" he replied.
A bit cheesed off, 'cos this always happens to me, we nipped into Currys next door because I know they sell Acer stuff too.
Guy in there was very helpful, looked on his PC but unfortunately they only had that model in blue, not pink. My wife looked a bit disappointed, 'cos she wanted pink. So I explained that PC World were out of stock of them too. His computer was linked to the PC World one, because they are part of the same group.
"Hang on" he said. "PC World are showing 3 pink ones in stock!"
So he gave me the reference number and we trapsed back around to PC World. This time I found a very helpful lady assistant who looked on her computer, confirmed that they did indeed have 3 in stock and went upstairs to get me one. 5 minutes later my wife was the proud owner of a new pink Acer netbook.
I thanked the kind lady, and asked her if she could kindly point me in the direction of the manager, which she did.
The manager was very apologetic, and asked if I could point out the salesman that told me they had no stock, without even bothering to look on his computer. I spotted the young lad chatting to a couple of girls as if he didn't have a care in the world. Little did he know that his manager was now walking towards him with smoke billowing out of his ears. I left the shop, happy in the knowledge that I might just have helped the next prospective PC World customer get the service and help that spending their hard earned cash in that establishment should expect.
