what about non run of the mill local tracks?

I would think as follows

You have had top amateurs playing your course in a national amateur event

take 5 or 6 shots off the fields average and that would be what you might expect to see

I played at a 6650 yard course and i could not imagine top pros shooting worse than 66 unless they were having a shocker, i mean give them 10 rounds they would average 64, watched a dozen tournaments and its my opinion based on that, they are DAMN good.

I watched John Parry around my home course, Wynyard. He murdered it. Same with McDowell at the London club on a company day.

Secret Tour Pro on Twitter was kind of talking about this in the other way around. Saying that a mid handicapper wouldn't be able to break 130 round Chambers Bay and lose a lot of balls. It's an interesting point. I'd love them to play my course. Probably green most of the holes with an iron and get bored halfway round lol.

My second visit to Woodhall Spa was for a 36 hole scratch off the back back tees... it chewed me up and spat me out.

Hi scores at a bog standard members club, not going to happen

Tour stars might play your course 100 times and never be over par, golf is hard for us but for them, your course is there to give them a shot at 59s and better not struggle to play to par or shoot a high number.

Would like to see them play Downfield as I had what was undoubtedly my best ever ball striking round there in a comp

Downfield would get ripped apart ,to many easy holes on it

I was lucky enough to see Greg Norman play two of my local courses when I was younger (must have been twenty years ago now) he was good friends of Nigel Mansell who brought him over. Very good to see although things would be very different now the pros hit it so much further.

I don't think they would take Royal Dornoch apart, but i don't know. No one Took RCD apart this year did they?

Almost made a 1 on the 16th there ball landed within a foot and popped out the pitch mark to within a couple of inches, only played the place 3 times but love it as i hit the ball basically as good as I could during one round, putted like a dog Alastair Forsyth won by 3 and had 8 putts less.. i have always sucked at putting!

We had a skins match last year, on our 7000 yd course, which has now gotten open quali' status. So a decent test, you'd think.
The weather wasn't good, the wind was in wrong direction, meaning the longest/hardest par 4's, which are normally down wind, were into.
The players were DJ Russell (2 x ET event winner, and Snr tour player), Paul Wesselingh (Senior Tour champion), Ian Walley (club Pro) and Bradley Moore (England boys team captain, off +3).

Even with how hard it was playing, they absolutely tore it apart.
I think they were a combined 16 under for 12 holes. So imagine a current tour player at the top of his/her game.

I don't know what SSS is at somewhere like Dornoch (I assume a good few over par - just checked it's +4), but anywhere that has CSS near level par I suppose that would suggest the big names would be well under par?

Remember the courses they play are made, harder with tight pins, harder fairways, longer rough
They are not just rocking up to these clubs and playing as the members might play a medal

My home course for no other reason than to see how they play it, our greens, our fairways our clay bunkers, not to embarass them in any way, just to see it played properly.

Pro's would no doubt shoot the lights out on most members courses but there are some they won't. Not sure they tricked up RCD, didn't need to, I would suspect Dornoch the same...

Id like to see them try thats all

To give a benchmark here's some info on the pro qualifying event for the Scottish Open which was played at North Berwick in July in reasonably benign weather conditions. The course was set at its full length ( which is only ~6700) and the pin positions were not tricked up too much - awkward but not silly. The field was mainly local Scottish pro's who are not on any of the 'tours' - so several ranks below 'top' professionals

After 36 holes the top 5 were between 12 and 14 under SSS. For bit of a marker one of the top local amateurs was 5th on 12 under (19 years old, handicap +3.5 AND playing his home course)

Almost exactly half finished over SSS overall - in benign conditions remember.

The comparison with the same 5 players playing in the Scottish Open at Gullane the following week was interesting. Gullane was setup much more like a tour course, long and unrelenting and with a good deal more wind. Only 1 of the 5 made the cut and the others were well down the field (alongside Monty and Sandy Lyle.)

Our course record is 63 ( 9 under SSS) by Trevor Immelman many a good few years back.

I would like to see the pros play more of the courses which are usually high up in the 'best courses of the world' lists. I enjoyed seeing them pit their wits against RCD at the Irish Open this year as it is always usually in the top 5 of those type of polls.

Some people seemed to moan that RCD was too difficult but I think the best players in the world should be tested on the best courses. It would also give us mere mortals a chance to see some of these courses that we have no chance of ever playing, even if it is just on tv.
