Courses to Play in Northern Ireland

I am on my way for a meeting in Ireland and was going to take my car....with the clubs of course!

Anyway having been disapointed to learn that County Down doesn't allow visitors at the weekend I thought there must be other 'hidden gems' over there as there are in Scotland!

So can anyone recommend courses to play in NI along the East Coast that will take visitors at the weekend?

Anything between Newcastle and Larne would work!

Ardglass....brilliant fun, modestly priced, superb views, very friendly......pretty much everything you would expect in NI. Or head up to the north coast and try your luck at Portrush?

You can play RCD on Sunday afternoon, I believe. Check with the club.

Other good choices in the vicinity include Ardglass, Kirkistown Castle, Bangor (watch out for a scoundrel called Brendy there) and Clandeboye. In Belfast, Malone and Belvoir are the best choices.

OK Thanks....I went to Portrush in 2010 and am still recovering.....

And I have to be back in Scotland on Sunday but thaks for the advice....I have heard a lot of good stuff about Ardglass though!

Just up the road from Larne is this place. It's literally 10-15 mins drive up the coast. . I play it a lot when I go and visit the inlaws. its got some really nice holes and great views across the Irish sea to the mull of kintyre.

RCD big course, Dont need to explain...
RCD Annesley Course, this shorter course (lots of 300 yd par 4s, criss crosses the big course in places and is a good track in its own right but is totally overshadowed by its big brother.
Ardglass, Just a gem of a course that is located beside the harbour and has a fantastic opening 6 holes with rocks and cliffs to the left. a few holes take you away from the water only to return again at the 10th for another few holes including a great 11th and par 3 12th. If you only have time to play one course while over, Ardglass wont disappoint. Never jam packed with players and uses the BRS system for times if you want to book ahead.
Bangor (of course! plenty of trees to keep most wayward golfers busy),
Belvoir park (one of the best inland courses on this green island),
Clandeboye has two courses (very decent when dry, one is longer and wider, other is shorter and very tight in places),
Scrabo (purely to see how you handle it if it gets windy).

To be honest though, I dont think you would be disappointed playing any of the courses in NI, those mentioned here and above would certainly keep you happy.
Dont forget that only 20 mins south of the border is the likes of Baltray, a fantastic difficult links course, Shane Lowry beat Robert Rock there in a play off a couple of years ago in the Irish Open.

I have a meeting in Kildare on Friday the 20th and will book up Ardglass on Saturday and then back to Scotland on Sunday.

I like ardglass, it's a bit different, and great sea views. I think they have no idea how to run a golf club, or a business, which drives me potty, but I still like it. Nice golf course.

Just need to check availability on Saturday as it is competition day for most clubs over here. Would strongly recommend it though. Few others are Kilkeel, warrenpoint and my own course Spa.

If your in Kildare you've got the K club ryder cup course. Mount Juliet is also within reach to name 2 of many. On the way back up North, a very reasonably priced and top quality course is Concra Wood - have a look at their website and drool at some of the breathtaking holes!
