Checking my emails and one from the club and we now have a reciprocal with Dunbar GC in Edinburgh, we have to pay £32.50 during the week for the pleasure, anyone played it and whats your thoughts. Our course has some cracking one where we get both courses at Crail , Ladybank and Lundin Links for £15 a round. Do you guys get as good a deal as that?

It's not exactly in Edinburgh - half an hour down the A1 - but a good course and well worth a visit.

We don't have great reciprocals but are part of the Edinburgh Golf scheme where members of any participating club get a cheaper green fee at the others. But I play most of them regularly enough in team matches, opens and county events so haven't ever used it.

We've arranged reciprocals with Bruntsfield Links (Edinburgh) and if I could arrange a fourball we'd get on free. Problem is that it's 432 miles door-to-door :(

But we've got half doz or so other free reciprocals and another half dozen at £15 a head close by or not too far afield.

Cheers Karen, I'm sure Tommo is a member there, we have one with Glenbervie as well which we get for free, I've not been myself but some of the lads did and weren't impressed.

I'm a member at 2 clubs. One of them we get a free 4ball a week or whatever and it's FCFS. The seniors tend to grab all them. The other club is much better, we get to sign ourself in anytime at the guest rate so I can play Hankley, West Sussex and several other top clubs cheaply :)

Played it a long, long time ago (1991 to be precise) and absolutely loved it, despite almost being blown off the course! It was so bad that we had to give up at or around the 13th and walk in. I have never played in weather like it before, or since.
But we enjoyed the course so much that we cancelled where we were due to play on the Friday and went back for another try. This time it was much better, although still a bit breezy.
Fairly unusual, (some could say "boring"), start, with two fairly straightforward par 5's, but these are followed by quite a tricky par 3 from an elevated tee, where that wind can (and will) catch you out.
You then walk through to the other side of a wall and play the holes that are exposed to the elements. Some really, really good ones where the ever present wind will have you scratching your head.
We played it in March, but I still remember that it was in very good condition and the greens were superb.
I'd love to go back and play there on a flat calm day, but I don't think you'd get many of them on that spit of coastline!!

PS Have I mentioned that it gets a tad windy there????

I'm sure we should be on the Braid list - must ask again.

My biggest problem in respect of taking advantage of reciprocals is that I'm expected to get a 4ball together - and that isn't that easy when all your golfing mates work full time.

My old course, Morpeth, had deals with a number of clubs. There is a group who have got together to offer members guest rates to everyone from these clubs. I can't remember all of them but I think there are about 8 clubs in the network. A good idea and a way of enhancing membership to those thinking of leaving and just playing society golf.

With the Angus half price scheme we don't need a fourball - my wife and I played Carnoustie Burnside last month on the deal.

I'd forgotten but we also get the James Braid deals - though not because of our main course (The Medal) which was originally designed by Allan Robertson and Alexander Pirie - our participation in the Braid offers comes from our second course (The Ashludie) which was designed by the maestro

Don't forget, we also get:-

Hong Kong, Hong Kong.
Grange Golf Club, S. Australia.
Lake Karrinyup Golf, Australia.
Portsea Golf Club, Australia.
Royal Perth, W. Australia.
Royal Cape, South Africa.
Durban Country Club, South Africa.
Royal Colwood, Canada.
GC Mondsee, Austria.

I guess someone on the Committee is well travelled.

I played huyton and Prescot for free one morning a month ago. Has to be mid week and after half 9 when the members play.

West derby has been tricky to get on. They keep giving me times that don't suit.

We have quite a few local and a few further afield.

Great option for people with time on their hands.

We (Dunbar) get half price deals at most other East Lothian clubs.
We can also play Goswick, Barassie and Roxburgh for half price.
No need for a 4 ball.
