Course Conditions - How everyones course looking

Course soaking wet, holes 4,5,6,7 closed for winter, greens haven't been cored for two years, losing balls in the middle of the fairway, the only matts we've got are the two old boys that play on a Tuesday. Oh and lift the ball from the fairway and place in the rough. Deep joy.

Dunbar east links.......played it saturday, just brill, wouldnt know its winter time. Royal Musselburgh, played today, well it's inland, tree lined, playing soft with no run but still off all the tees and 16 greens. Preferred lies now in operation at both my courses.

My track is OK, greens are looking worse for wear, they haven't even started to prep for winter green yet :(

The fairways are as bad as ever, way to much time concentrating on the green, and the tee boxes and fairways are usually in terrible shape. As for the rough there is penal, then there is our place the rough is totally unmanaged, they cut it maybe twice a year, so the is no uniformity and now when it is wet and clumpy it gets a little dangerous as you don't know what you might hit in there.

Now sherdley park golf course, is a muni, and apart from a few bits of boggy ground the course is great, they have been prepping winter greens since mid sep, they are almost as good as the main greeens.

great isn't it? I can understand closing 5 and 6 to work on the drainage at the side of the 5th green but why not leave 4 and 7 open?

Nairn went on to the winter course this week so some mats and play from the side of the fairway inside the white posts. Full greens still, no hollow tine this year just spiked but running ok.

Not sure about Tain not played there in a few weeks, but playing there tomorrow so will soon find out.

It's been fantastic weather wise the last week or so, short sleeve shirts today. might get frost overnight as the sky is clear.:(

Tain, In great shape still on full course, greens still very good and weather, well better that Aug, shirt sleeves again about 18deg :)

My course is in top notch condition at moment considering greens are starting to look a little ragged and rough a bit soggy ( lots of rain :( ) although we are getting sprinklers installed over the winter which will be nice next season : )

Ours is 'okay'.Greens are still good and it is nice to see they have eventually divoted albeit way too late.Generally it's looking somewhat tired.

I hear you have had changes in the Clubhouse/catering at Tain Patrick?Hope things work out for the best.

I don't know the ins and outs of it Alan, but i think they had to get rid of the new caterers . The lady that did it before knew everyone and knew what worked and what didn't. She left to have a baby, and i don't think the new people worked out.

Have to say i didn't play at Tain much this year, so havn't hardly used the bar or Restaurant

I am surprised our course is holding up at the minute, the amount of rain we had in ballymena over the last month or 2 has been dreadful, played 12 holes today and the course was canny, yes it was wet in parts, but the fairways were dry and the greens were not too bad. for nov, it will do! :) The course was closed for a couple days within the last 2 weeks as the rain was so bad we had impromtu lakes on the 10th, 11th and 13th fairways as the river burst its banks.

Not played since middle of October but it has been a swamp since mid August. Course should have been closed many a time due to excess water and as a result it is now a mess. Aprons all churned up by trollies over the last three months as no areas have been fenced off. No trolley/wheel ban etc put in place at all either. Stand too long at the edge of some greens and you will leave footprints in them.
On last day of the season we had over 120 for closing match plus an outing when nobody should have been near the course. I stepped of the banking at the back of the 13th green and suddenly felt my left foot very wet.I looked round to see my shoe stuck in the mud and no longer on my foot.

Just got info in for the AGM this month and I seen in the minutes from last yearn that the Captain/Committee proposed never closing the course due to rain. Members asked if the greenkeeper was also in favour to which the captain replied "No". Members voted down the Captains/Committee proposal but not sure if the greenkeeper has been pressured to keep the course open at times.

Think i may be somewhere else next year

Considering the drenching it's had I guess it's ok. The greens have recovered well from the sand and tining
However, it's a bit wet down the bottom of the course which punishes even the meerest hint of a fat. We're on mats on 4 out of 5 of the par 3 tees and the course is generally a bit hairy and needing a trim.

We still need a better path between the 15th green and 16th tee.

Ours in in terrible condition, patchy greens, overgrown tee boxes, but the green staff and owners if you can call them that just don't care as they want to sell to a building company for 600 houses!!!

Didn't play at my tack last weekend as I was PLaying Hawkstone Park.

Week before the course was in exceptional condition for the end of October. We were still on regular greens, but were playing off fairway mats.

I hate playing off mats but it's a small price to pay for keeping the course good over the winter.

Steve, spotted green staff mowing 5th fairway with Flymos, it's a down hill par 3 for gods sake, and it's shut for winter, what a waste of resources unless it's in preparation for something unknown, like drainage going in, but that bits dry. Have you joined VOL yet?

As I was on the 12th tee yesterday I looked up the 4th, about 4 green staff working on yet another closed hole! Apparently though they have now started excavation work for new drainage at the side of the 5th green.

Played the back 9 yesterday and on the plus side the course is a lot firmer than last week thank god, only one winter green now and that's on 11.

We'll be joining VOLGC for the start of next season - come and join us for a round there once we have mate.

The wife's credit on her swipe card is steadily coming down in direct proportion to the hardening of my arteries.

Nice one Steve, thanks for the offer of a game, not played VOL for years but remember it fondly as i scored well and condition was A1. Definately looking elsewhere for next season also, but stay reasonably local so won't go too far.
Why don't you take something off the 'healthy options' menu ;)

Where are you thinking? Beith, lochwinnoch? Not that I have played either mind you.

If a healthy options menu exists then Emma is hiding it from me!

Not sure yet mate, played both Lochwinnoch (mountain side golf) and Beith (slightly less mountain side golf), I've heard that Beith are in a bit of financial bother but fighting, so not real sure, maybe look at Caldwell and Largs and see if any deals are on the go.

That is Emma's 'healthy options menu' you been eating off.:D

Emm, my course is undergoing extensive works at the moment, changing bunker shapes and depths, some are filled with lovely soft sand others are like readymix! Hollow core and seeding of fairways and also approaches to the green, part of the fairways are long new grass and the other bits are short established grass, and some are covered in patches with fleece to encourage grass growing. Soon work is to commence on putting in a water feature so balls can be donated to the water gods, which can only be done after removal of tree's and drainage trenches etc, should be good for next years societies but looks like a winter of dicontent, however the course at the moment is in good condition and the greens are good, would be better if golfers repaired they're pitch marks!!!

Dont know if anyone has had this but our course was closed Monday morning due to frost,Course opened at 10am once the frost had gone...
