County Cards

We get ours free with our diary, which I just collected over Christmas. I put my CDH number on the back and carry it everywhere with me, saves printing a handicap certificate.

Ignore the bit about payment etc as you get yours from your club/local union but on the left are all the counties that participate and what clubs let you use the county cards.

You have to contact each club to find out restrictions but its a start

Not ours either, I've shown and used it all over the country and received discounted rates.

Some counties don't allow the use by other counties.

Cornwall (used to, not sure now) only allow - Somerset, Devon, Dorset and Wiltshire. St Enodoc in particular, as my friends from Hampshire couldn't use there's when we (from Wiltshire used ours).

East Devon also have cheaper prices to neighbouring counties

Seems odd, why have a separate county card for each county if you can use it all over the country regardless of county?

Because the scheme was originally just for use within your particular county (so you could only play the courses that were in your county). However I agree, merging into one national scheme would make sense.

I'm guessing my Surrey County card can be used anywhere in England because the reciprocal arrangement for all other counties is attractive (btw I'm not saying that Surrey is the best county in England for golf - though might just be suggesting that it may well be :) )

Although the best courses in the county don't accept them. 😉

they wouldn't - but there are many not dissimilar clubs and courses that do. So when you are down here or in Berkshire playing any if the 'biggies' - there are lots of really good courses about that will accept the county card, were you looking for a 2nd or 3rd round

I'm only messing. I've played a lot of the courses in Berkshire given that I live in Swindon and grew up in Portsmouth

Norfolk have a county card, but are not associated with the national scheme.

There are links in this thread that explain everything, some courses work on a day rate others offer guest rates, some courses have restrictions, others accept the card again and again

A major flaw in the whole scheme IMO. If EG and golf courses are really interested in being a service to affiliated members perhaps there should be one scheme which offer club golfers rates on the county card which better rates given to societies.

I don't think England Golf have anything to do with the county card scheme, I think its run by the county unions. I might be wrong however.

Agreed but they are the overarching body that could get counties and clubs to work together on the issue.

I find it strange that according to some on here they are unable to get a deal on a county card with St Enadoc because their county cards are not accepted yet four people who may not even be members of a golf club could pay £36 each for a round of golf and a meal there at the moment.

Don't believe all you read on golf forums.;)

I phoned Royal Liverpool and they dont accept Lancashire ones.

I think it changes from club to club, as Sandiway do accept Lancashire ones. I guess it depends on how much they need visitor fees, or not.
