Played in my club comp on Saturday, very wet underfoot, notice on board prior to playing stating 'Preferred lies through the green'. Can the comp still be a counter for handicap purposes? Lots of different opinions in the clubhouse, clear it up please gents.

think its down to your local golf union, in that the club have to request to be allowed to play a qualifer with preferred lies in place.
there is reluctance to allow this but this year it has been inevitable given the poor weather through the "drier" months.

County Union has to authorise an extension of the preferred lies period but the local rule must not be "through the green" but the standard local rule i.e. close mown areas only.
