Could I really have sorted my driving out?

I had a Titleist 909 D2 9.5 degree voodoo stiff. Got fitted up for it a while back now and while it worked ok to start I began to have a real problem with it. Most shots with the rest of my clubs were there or thereabouts so the swing wasn't too bad. But the driver - well to sum it up - I missed a fairway by 70 yards the other day.

I came to the point that I developed a "yips" type fear of the driver. I had absolutely no idea which direction the ball was going in. With that lack of confidence the 909 was on borrowed time.

Last week, a guy I was playing with lent me his R9. I set it to the slight draw/weight in the heel setting and let rip. Long and straight. Repeatedly. Even with a slice-swing.
Went to the range and tried one out. Same result. I had nothing to lose - a 909 that I wasn't talking to or an R9 that seemed to work. Bye Bye 909 - hello R9. Found a cheapy from an E-bay shop and took it out yesterday.

I can honestly say tht I drove as well as I have ever done. In a strong wind I was keeping the ball straight and making good distances. I did try a bit hard on one occasion and managed to slice but it wasn't a disaster like before.

I'm out again tuesday and I hope it keeps working. Could just be the extra confidence I've developed but I feel I can swing a driver again and have a good idea where its going. And if the swing does go AWOL again I can adjust the club to compensate.

Golf's become fun again.

I am waiting for the '909 is a crap driver' brigade to post.

Tbh, it sits open, and if you slice, it is a receipe for disaster.

Mine? I love it. Hit it yesterday, two of which were over 285 (measured on gps), one into a cross wind.

I am sure the R9 is cool. I loved my R7, but it sat closed. As a result I pulled it left. Loved the feel of it though. I was tempted by an R9, but also by the latest Nike, with adjustable lie.

As a commited TM junkie I really wanted to like the R9 but having tried one recently I just didn't get on with it and hit a bog standard Burner 10.5 regular better than its R9 equivalent irrespective of whic setting I had it on.

Hit a 909 at the range the other night with a Matrix Ozik shaft and loved it. Great trajectory and carry.

My 909 is an 8.5 degree D2, Matrix ozik xcon 6 stiff, and it is the best driver I have ever hit.

Bit off post, but hey, who cares.

Actually I would say the D2 is a bit draw biased compared to the D3, say, particularly with the Titleist Voodoo. That Voodoo is soft compared to a real Voodoo. The guy who works on my clubs says there is at least a half flex difference.

I have a D£ with a real Matrix code 6 and it is a lovely driver.

Draw biased? No.

I have not hit a D3, but it must be miles open if the D2 is square.

Rory Mac hits a D2, so it can't be that bad.
