Cooden Open today.....

Enjoy your day mate.... and it's not raining yet!

Rain is possibly forecast for later on this afternoon. Hopefully we'll miss it. They sometimes get it wrong.
Wind is not too bad today down here either, that was the one thing I was dreading. Cooden is very exposed so a 15mph wind feels like 30 down there!
Hopefully the course will be in great shape. It drains quite well so shouldn't be too wet, and with the rain we've had it should be nice and green. Don't think we'll get to play it in much better nick than it's likely to be.
Thing is, its off the yellow tees. The 3 easy par 5's become pretty tough par 4's off of those. But I guess it's the same for everyone! Really looking forward to it mate.

Smiffy how many balls should I bring. The usual six or seven, or should I play safe and bring 19 in case I have a PNWokingham ?

Played it Tuesday, greens in great condition so is the course, fairways are very generous and it's only a light breeze so far.

Was walking round for 1.10 to meet Smiffy and wish him well, then the heavens literally opened and thunder. Couldn't even make a run for it it was that heavy, wonder if they will stop the comp especially with thunder. What a shame it was so nice earlier.

We only went and bloody won it!!!!!
Both played really, really well despite the weather. Teed off and it was bone dry. By the time we got down to play our 2nd shots it was hammering down with rain, the wind had got up, and we could hear rumbles of thunder in the distance. Sky was as black as your hat, and I was not looking forward to it one bit. It stopped raining after about 4 or 5 holes, and we began to dry out, then just as we thought we'd escaped, we got another downpour. Has to be the toughest conditions I have ever played Cooden in, the wind was really savage and on the front 9, nearly every hole seemed into it. Had 22 points on the front, started off on the back 9, and again the heavens opened. The first three holes on the back were all playing with difficult windy conditions but I knew once we got round to the 13th we would be heading back in again with the wind behind us and it would be a little easier. We only had 1 one pointer on the back 9, the rest were all 3's and 2's and I missed a fairly simple 6 footer on the last for a 4 point birdie.
Ended up on 46 points and won on countback.
Absolutely chuffed, as is Richard. Won't know what we've won yet as it is the centenary prize giving on Friday afternoon and I will be working, but Keith Wiley, the club secretary, has arranged for me to call into the club on Sunday morning before heading off to Remedy Oak to pick the prizes up!!
Whooohooo!!!!
