Confession

I wrote about my very slow swing speed and consequent lack of distance somentime back.
I am really chuffed so many of you younger guys and girls are in the same position as me.
I have yet to lay up on any of our par threes, not too far from that though.
One plus is to make the green with your driver and see you pals fall short with the wrong club.

Obviously if I'd made it that far round the course, I would have got there with a smooth iron ;)

What the OP hasn't said due to his modesty is that he finished 1 shot behind the winner in a very strong field!! ( I counted 18 players off scratch or better on the start sheet) so very well played Darren

It was St Enodoc btw and he is talking about the 17th which was straight into a gale!

Well played indeed sir

Last night I played Driver, 5 iron, 3 wood, 5iron, SW to a 530yd par 5.

(I did 1-putt).

According to CONGU I'm off 7.

(admittedly the driver and 3 wood shots were two of the worst shots I've played in a long long time...the 5 irons were recovery shots punching the ball back out onto the fairway from beneath trees)

Having played with Darren, I can't believe this is the first time he has hit driver into a par three.

Well played at St Enodoc.

Our 16th is 232yrds from the white tees and is more often than not into a headwind. Driver is almost a regular occurrence, even if it is a "down the grip" job sometimes. It's not how, it's how many (usually too many for me )

I did it twice in one round a couple of years ago at Southerness. I came up about 30 yards short on one of the Holes. I find it makes the hole feel a bit 'Wrong'

The first par 3 was a closest to the pin comp. that went well. Not one of the rabble even got remotely near the green.

Grimsby golf club has a 243y par 3, elevated tee has a fairway bunker 40y short of the green and is driver 90% of the time......... Ridiculous hole.

The 11th played in (basically) the opposite direction was a little 5iron - it was 20yds further than 17.

I'm sure it was just a steady breeze, but some of the holes played brutally long. The 18th tee had to get moved forward for the pm round as many couldn't reach the fairway from the back tee.

First time I've played it right off the back, it's even more of a favourite now. Same time next year Gordon?

The Skoda ball was getting a bit soft and didn't fly Rich ;)

Amazingly, there was a hole in one on 17 on Sunday, club of choice for him was the driver too!

Superb result - well played

Looking to play there next year

Did the same in the summer in Scotland. Reay golf club 7th hole. 196 yards up hill raised green into a 30 mph wind! Caught it too well and put it to the back of the green. Still felt wrong!
