Conceited?

I dont think so, they guy was personal and rude..... He meant offense.

So what if he meant offense, that doesn't mean you have to take offense. He was a guy walking past a golf course who muttered something. He wasn't being personal to the OP, the OP just happened to be there. It's a guy who's probably uneducated opinion really doesn't matter. If anyone takes offense to that, then they are too sensitive.

It's an individual's perception or resentment - most probably the latter. So I agree - you turn the other cheek and smile. But the issue we have in general and that we consider elsewhere is 'perception'. Your Mr J Public may well simply see you as being representative of a sector of society that he does not relate to in any way and is resentful of. But his perception of us - though perhaps unfair - is probably representative of a more generally held perception - though with most there is not the resentment towards us that cause such snidy comments to be made.

Outside of Scotland (gross generalisation) golf is seen by many as being elitist, snooty and played by those with 'money'. Walk into the car park of my club and that perception will be reinforced by the plethora of new BMWs, Mercs, Jags. Range Rovers, Porsches and the occasional Maserati and Ferrari. In that company my 08 Polo tends to go unnoticed :)

Cool, by your definition I am then.... I am not sure I would have felt offended but I would have thought it a liberty that the guy had the front to voice his opinion out loud... for me that is looking for trouble and if you look for it you WILL find it. So what he thinks is not an issue for me, that he has the front to say it... Bold!

Hello, as I was out playing my usual few rounds of golf this morning i couldn't help but notice a passer-by on the public footpath besides me walk past and mutter under his breath "conceited old goons". I found this offensive. We're not conceited are we?
According to R&A Rules and guidance on etiquette, the correct response is "sad old git"
