computer specs, is this alright

Looks a good enough spec for a home laptop, general surfing, video etc etc. It does seem on the pricey side IMHO, i would of said about £400/450ish for that spec

Personally, i wouldnt go for a samsung, their build quality on laptops in my experience has not been great, however i am going back a few years. IF it were me, i would buy DELL direct, i know a lot of people hate Dell and some techies will be on slating them, however i have had 3 in the past 5 years (different companies) and they have been fantastic...

here is one i would suggest comparing the samsung with.. http://www.dell.com/uk/p/inspiron-15-intel-n5050/pd?oc=n00n5516&model_id=inspiron-15-intel-n5050

Slightly smaller RAM and HDD however...

there is 100 off by redemption with samsung, plus at the moment cash is better for me

cheers i thought it was, im going to try and haggle in store lol waving a bunch of 50s and see what happens. (it worked in amsterdam)

If you use Quidco, you can use it for collect in store, and you would get 1.5% cashback. while only £7.50 back, it soon adds up with good old quidco! i am close to "earning" £700 from my 5 years on there!

The Dell you quote is a good machine, but the samsung has more RAM, a bigger hard drive and is only £399 after the cashback offer

Unbeatable value in my book ,

i like a haggle, how much do you think i cud get off if any. as there are at least 4 stores within 15 miles. i can walk out the first with my cash. and try another

It's a good spec and a good price. I've just got a new laptop, a Lenovo - cracking.

In terms of reliability and satisfaction (excluding apple, which are top, obviously) the list goes something like

Lenovo, Asus, Toshiba, Sony, Dell, Samsung, Acer.

As I wouldn't buy a Sony (they are not a laptop company) and are overpriced, I guess that means I wouldn't buy Dell or Samsung, and certainly not Acer.

There's very little in it though. HP are bottom of the pile for reliability.

I love Samsung products, but the "recovery" is built in on the installed Hard Drive (like all laptops) and Samsung don't offer a quick to use option to create factory repair disks in the way that Asus (AI) Lenovo (oneKey) and Toshiba (Toshiba Recovery Media Creator) do. You can download the Samsung software, but it's universally mistrusted.
So, if the hard drive goes, you're in trouble. BIG trouble.
