for whatever reason i cant get on tinternet using internet expolorer. it opens up then shuts. im currently able to get on with google chrome but i all my favourites are on IE. whats happened

It's forced you to use a better browser ;-)

You should just be able to reinstall it without losing your settings

ive tried but it says ive already got it installed, plus all my favs are lost gutted

You could import the favorites into chrome, it is pretty straight forward.

1 start
2 control panel
3 Internet options
4 advanced
5 reset
6 follow it through
7 restart IE
8 err that's it

Shout back if it doesn't work

I sometimes have problems with IE7 that can be resolved by clearing the cache of all your historical guff using Tools>Delete Browsing History..., especially temporary internet files and cookies.

Yup, Firefox for me all the way.
I'd possibly be downloading Malwarebytes and CC Cleaner although you can't get on the internet lol.
Restart your pc in Safe Mode with networking disabled, run full scans with whatever anti virus software you use, restart again in Safe Mode and do the same scan, it's long winded but worth it.
Restart in normal mode but do not connect to the internet, scan again.
Restart as normal and report back.

That would have been the sensible option listening to a guy that works in IT! (I assume from your IT help post replies!) that or you need to get out more...

Not in Chrome, no.

If you must use IE, you can try running IE in safe mode in case its some add-on that's causing the problem.

I'm going to assume Windows 7 here, so if that's the case, click the Windows icon at the bottom-left of the screen and in the 'search programs and files' box type:

iexplore -extoff

and hit enter. You should get IE working without any add-ons you may have installed. If so, you can then start to troubleshoot which add-on is likely to be the culprit.
