I did chuckle at the suggestion that Idris Elba could have played the role as he was the correct skin tone. Wrong nationality, wrong accent but the skin colour is fine o_O.

give it a few years and the only candidate to play a person in a biopic, will be the bloody real life person.

I read this yesterday and though that it was obviously good news and your good old fashioned white / black racism must be fixed. Now people can concentrate of discriminating different shades

An actor in a Netflix series, I think it was Netflix, was hounded out of a role recently. He played a gay character and people were complaining that he was straight and so the role should have gone to a gay man instead. Ridiculous that he caved in.

The clue is in the job description, they are acting. Should someone playing a murderer have to have carried out the deed? Should Ian McKellen only play gay roles from now on? Utterly stupid but unfortunately social media gives these planks a platform.
 
I agree this is stupid. If it's a fractional different in shade they can easily fix that with make-up or editing. Just like if they wanted a pale guy to play Donald Trump and they had to change him to tangerine colour.

Exactly, Neil Patrick Harris played a straight womaniser for like 10 series of How I Met Your Mother, and nobody complained about that.
 
Can Will Smith act? Good, well give him the part; if we rustle up someone from the BBC make up department who worked on the Black & White Minstrel Show then we can solve the other non-issue... :rolleyes:

Literally just read this and decided I'd like to get off the planet now please..

Surprised the same people didn't complain making him blue for the Genie role didn't complain it as an insult to his black heritage making him be a different colour instead of his natural colour yet now a black actor isn't black enough for a role he would probably be good in 🙄
 
But of course we still have freedom of speech/ expression - well you might but I'm a white male and hetrosexual so I don't think I have anymore !!!

The movie and stage industry is full of films where "Actors" of both sexes, have played roles that invlove playing different sexes, different races and different colours. Surely, that's part and parcel of being an "Actor"? Or can you only be an "Actor" if you play yourself?

Stupid is as stupid does.
