From what I remember IB is nowhere near as good as specific qualifications, which is what you want if you want to go to uni. We had the choice of doing it in 6th year, I quit and started working instead.

Edited thread, come on fellas, as funny as it was, keep to topic. :)

I know a lot of the pro golfers who went to colleague in America say it really helped their game.

Maybe contact a few and see what they requiremnts are, no harm in planing for the future ah..

That sounds like a good plan i like your confidence, maybe going to america would be an option,of course learning to spell correctly would be a good start[said in a joking manner]ecenomics-economics.The main thing is have a plan.

Just the 5 mistakes there then and that's not how you spell Baccalaureate

Mono, I know this is only a golf forum, but you are going to need to be able to write properly if you want others in any industry to take you seriously.
Spell checker isn't everywhere. :(

Mono,

I admire your ambition and drive. Its one of your strongest characteristics. However you need to temper it with a touch of realism. We've spoke before about the need to be playing very high qulaity golf regularly to make it as a pro. I know there are courses where you don't have to be a top golfer but I'm afraid the vast majority of golfers look for a PGA qualification as an industry recognised standard.

Have a serious think. There are loads of other avenues into golf (retail, administration etc) and so it doesn't have to always be the straightforward playing route. Look at me as an example. Average golfer who has a passion for writing. End up doing some stuff for GM and that opened a few doors elsewhere.

Work hard and see what exams you end up with and have a think. A solid education is a must as a fall back whatever career path you choose. I do think a look at your English may help (even just for your CV) but don't get too hung up about it here. It's only a forum after all and I don't check my posts as closely as I should. As long as you take care with the spelling and grammar when it matters you'll be fine.

The bottom line I guess is not to rush. You still have plenty of time on your side but keep positive.

Mono, how are your grades? You'll need to be an A*/A student across the board to get in there. No point even thinking about Winstanley unless you're at that level imo.

TBH, If you are good enough academically and want to go to University I wouldn't bother with the IB. Just get good A Levels. x

I have looked into the golf college route. The college i want to be accepted into you have to off 5 or less to be in the highest set. Therefore you get the most attention (coaching wise). I am to get down to 5, i have nearly 2 years to do it. :S

Mono if you are not a minimum of county player you will probably not be accepted into the US college scholarship scheme. The colleges choose the very very best players to represent them and they have the choice of some fantastic young talent at their disposal. Recent college players on tour include Colin Montgomerie (however his dad was a millionaire so paid for him to attend)but still a phenomenal player, Luke Donald & Paul Casey. If you really really want a career in golf you are going to have to get that nose to the grindstone. I have a friend who spent fifty grand in lessons, transport, gear on his son.He was a county and England representative and only made the euro challenge tour for a year before losing his playing rights. He is a fantastic golfer playing off +3/4 I think. In golf regardless of background handicap talks so you really are going to have to be scratch these days to get anywhere. It is achievable if you work hard for it. Get stuck in, get the handicap down then doors will open. If you want it, go get it. I wish you all the very best mate.

Be an accountant fella, you'll make a bundle and not suffer any heartache of shattered dreams if it doesn't come off.
Also you can get to the top of the amature game whilst earning as an accountant and if you still have desire turn pro......simples.
