Colin Murray resigns from Talksport after Sun takeover

So what?

He should be applauded for sticking by his principles when it comes to that repulsive organisation not getting slagged off by some little gimp.
Well said Richy, he'd been offered an improved contract to 2019, so maybe, just maybe, he is being honest and behaving wirh integrity.

Is this guesswork or based on something mate? He already does other work?

Neither mate, just a response to the posts here. If he has not got another job and resigned purely on a point of principle then yes, it is to be thoroughly applauded. However if he has seen what was coming, sorted an alternative job and then grandstanded his "principled resignation" then in my opinion he is not worthy of any praise at all. Only he knows the truth.

But from reports he was offered an improved contract through to 2019, so he wasn't facing the sack.

If he's done it for the reasons you state then I'd 100% agree with you.

I didn't suggest he was facing the sack  Others suggested he had another job lined up prior to his resignation, one questioned whether or not it mattered if he had a new job, personally it makes a huge difference to me if he had a new job lined up as to the level of principle involved. Sacking was never on my mind when I posted.

The principle doesn't change even if he has another job, chances are he'd have stayed had news group not taken over. Principle meant he felt he had to look elsewhere and leave.

You're not half limiting your options if you take the hump over all of News International and you want a career in sports journalism. Seems a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

It's not about having the hump though is it

Murray is clearly sticking to the same principles that many Liverpool fans have in regards the Sun newspaper.

He stated on his twitter that he had been offered a contract to 2019 so I think he was safe (as safe as you can be) and that it was a decision based purely on principal. While that has to be applauded, and given his Liverpool allegiances, perhaps not wholly surprising given the News International take over. Not a big fan of his, either on TV or radio but you have to admire someone when they have the guts to take such a big decision on a principal. Of course I also think, perhaps cynically, that he won't be out of work for long and may even have another deal in the pipeline

Just read the thread again and unfortunately it was another poster saying he probably had another job lined up, I see were you're coming from now, however, the other job lined up comment was no more than sheer guesswork.

Which is why I said "Probably" 🙄

I know why he is doing it, I know the history but he would not be working for The Sun. He would be working under the same parent company as the Sun works under but not for the paper itself. Clear lines. Considering most Liverpool fans will have Sky and that is 39% owned by News Corp and effectively run by them then that is the same situation. If you want to keep the Sun issue going then okay but other sections of the group have no link to that day. I think he is stretching the issue to make a point that doesn't need making.

I think he's worried about the possible tie-ins with The Sun, rather than the parent company. Nobody has advocated boycotting Newscorp, just the filthy rag that it owns.
