After boasting blue skies and wide smiles, things changed fast, inevitable really, and I guess I deserved it. :D Just feel guilty for stealing Mike and Daves sun-tans :D

Anyway, arrived at club a little after the agreed 13:45 and was greated by a familiar, friendly face that was the main man himself.

Very impressed by the club house, I desperatly pretended I wasn't at all 'star struck' by all the pictures on the walls and the view out of the window. Mike (very kindly) treated us to a pint and sandwich. service was very quick and very good. Thumbs up to Hoylake staff!

After a short chat we decided to hit the range and get loose. All 3 of us were hitting the ball pretty well and I for one, felt very good about what was to be had.

Off to the first Mike led the way with a perfect drive, I over drawn and Dave nailed an iron perfectly to position A. Only Mike secured the par but a 5 each was pretty well taken by Dave and myself all things considered (OOB right and nerves being just 2)

Without going into great detail, there were some great, great golf shots played and Mike proved to be a fantastic caddy :D Sharing with us, all of his local knowledge.

9th Hole, Mike made a net eagle after a great recovery from the shaggy stuff, but not to be out done and taking full advantage of his extra shots, Dave made a net Albatross after an equally good recovery from the spinnach patch.

Scores on the doors then.

Mike came first with a very impressive 37 points. A round that included 9 pars and 2 birdies and a return 1 under his H/C. Very solid and a pleasure to be beaten by.

I finished with 35 points, Dave finished on 31 points.

Highlights:

Mike: 14th(I think) second shot to par 5, 3 wood off deck, 220 yards, middle of the green to set up a 2 putt birdie.

Tee shot on par 3 11th that looked too long, up the hill at the rear and straight back down, and round towards the hole. Local knowledge :D

All of his bunker shots were fantastic and pretty darn precise from some times 6ft below green level.

Dave: 3 iron tee shot on first that travelled almost as far as Mike's and my drives.

Pw on par 3 13th to within 8ft, great strike, great flight, pitched just at front and rolled on nicely. Sure it would of dropped had he not begged it to stay out. (Yorkshire man get the drinks in for the clubhouse, dont think so) :D

I will let them choose mine. :P

All in all, a fantastic day out and really good fun. Very kind of Mike to invite us along so thanks again to him. Also to Dave for making the trip over/down.

Sorry my pics are poor, more to follow from Mike and Dave I think.

In response

The net albatross would only have been so from my official club handicap which, i don't play to but a net eagle will do me nicely.

Tony hit some cracking drives all day long and but for some bad kicks would have scored far better.
I seem to recall an approach at 16 (i think) that was all over the flag.

Mike was consistent the whole day. Any errors were rectified by some superb recoveries and his short game was sharp.

In my defence on the par 3. I did say stop out but (a) i am a Yorkshireman & (b) it was the Cheshire ladies champs & I don't think I could have covered babychams all round :D

Just one final thing & that is to thank Mike for the invite, hospitality, guidance & company

PS, we think we know where Poulters locker was for the open..... the one next to the huge mirror

great stuff guys, looks like a great day was had and the weather was kind,I always prefer playing when it's overcast than suny for some strange reason!
What happened to RGuk?

He couldn't make it Alan. Something came up that he couldn't refuse. Shame really but there will always be other days.

I don't mind playing in the sun. I can see the ball in flight.
When it's overcast, I find it easier to play with a younger partner (with better eyesight).

Jezz, it was behind the ladies but only just :D

We did have the wind behind us and the ground was rather firm, we both got very favourable bounces too.

I out drove his driver on that hole with my 3 wood :D
but proceded to push my 3 wood into the green waaaay right

To be fair, he ripped his 3 wood off the deck to the middle of that green with a rather sexy flight! :D

The O.P was my effort Homer

I didnt want to give a fully detailed report and send you all to sleep, my authoring skills( is that even a word) are a few strokes over par to say the least.

Maybe Mike will give his version once he gets over his loss...(Rangerover) :(

I am afraid that was all I had to offer in the Pics department, I didnt really want to slow us down anymore, all 3 of us where using trolleys :D
