Clubs that lived up to the hype and changed the game

Richart is right - the chipper - allows all over 50 to continue to play ;)

Pelz's 2 ball putter defintely

Also i agree it was the C'way Titanium BBB, but i think it was TM who brough th the first real metal wood

Ping Anser putter definitely

Ping EYE irons

But after all of that the one innovation .... Castle Tees :)

Ping eye 2 irons for box grooves and woods for being oversize.

Taylor made for inventing the metal wood.

Wilson for starting shaft hype and shaft colours with their fire stick.

The Original Big Bertha Driver and irons - revolutionised club golf.

2-Ball putter. The first really wacky shape.

The first integral Stand Bag - Sun Mountain in '86 according to t'interwebbythingamajig

The first 460cc driver - apparently a Cleveland Launcher

Would have to agree with Callaway Big Bertha, Ping Eye 2s and Wilson Firestick.

Will also throw in the Wilson TPA putter, like the one Faldo used.
Still got mine and will never part with it.

Interesting thread this one, you can gauge how long they've been playing by their comments.

I'd have to say the advent of the cavity back iron was a major step up for us mere mortal golfers. I learned to play with a mixed bag of old bladed clubs that you could shave with. The cavity backs even way back then made such a difference.

Tiger and snap hook - dont rub the salt in.. that drivers was awesome may have a look on ebay for a driver fitted with that shaft and get it put in something else by the TM brand.

so taylor made invented the first metal wood, what was it?

Shamelessly stolen:

"Pinseeker Golf Corp innovated the first stainless steel metalwood called the Bombshell in 1976. The design was somewhat untraditional and did not have the promotional success needed for profitable long term marketing - it was discontinued 3 years later. In 1979 Taylor Made produced a traditionally shaped stainless steel wood head called "Pittsburgh Persimmon" which achieved market acceptance by the mid-1980s"

Sos Oddsocks - thought you were over it!
The one I bought from you had 8.5 degree of loft but I exchanged for one with more loft (same shaft) and they are pretty easy to get hold of. I reckon for £40/£50 quid you could pick up a G2 or G5 with the green shaft no bother.
