I have to say we've been pretty lucky at my place. We have had the locker room broken into and locekrs forced but as far as I know no-one has had their car broken into. I guess the fact that we have security gates which need a token or a password to get out is a deterrent and we do have some limited cctv.

I guess big events like charity days will always be a source of pickings for opportunists and I guess I'm lucky that I have my locker so I leave everything in there while I'm playing. Also beign a one car family at present I'm relian on HID picking me up so nothing is left unattended anyway.

I played in a fundraiser for a child with a optic nerve illness on friday, anyway the lad who had organised everything had his clubs stolen off the back seat of his mates car. His mate stupidly never locked his car.

When the lad approached the pro about the problem and asked to see the cctv he was told they didnt have any!

Now i know the lads mate should've locked his car and its not the clubs fault but surely a well established club with plenty of members and still charge a £500 joining fee and £1k year subs should have cctv or am i wrong?

bloody low lifes who do things like that
i think a club like that should maybe have a camera on the car park but as we all know its not the case

Your right what club was it? Our club has a sevurity problem leave your clubs in the locker room and allsorts go missing balls towels gloves money this is what gives scousers a bad name.

I have had to resort to putting little luggage locks on all the zips.

Tough call Stuart. There is a case for CCTV, then again, the clubs shouldn't have been left on view in an unlocked car. Can't see Plod having much sympathy to be honest.

Shame as the guy was supporting a good cause!

I agree the clubs shouldn't have been left on the back seat with the door unlocked but my gripe is against the club who are taking good money off punters and not providing them with a safe car park.

These golf clubs have some seriously expensive cars rolling up every day of the week but yet there not prepared to help protect them.

This incident happened between 830-9am. They do have a security gaurd but he doesn't start work til 930am.

There are municipal courses in liverpool that have cctv so for me theres no excuse that these private clubs cant provide it.

Hi,

at our recent club champs, the club capt had his clubs stolen by some pikey git, just before his final round. CCTV shows good picture of the bloke and his young child, but does not show the veh reg.

I've been to many clubs around the country and could probably count on one hand those that have CCTV cameras viewing the car park. Unless the cameras are good and the frame rate and resolution are good then the chances of getting meaningfull pictures off the CCTV system are fairly low.

I certainly wouldn't leave my own clubs lying around a locker room never mind in open view in the back of a car.

You live and learn.

West Derby was the club but dont believe everything mono its not just scousers that steal gear its a national problem!

Im sorry for what happened, but holding the club responsible in your minds eye even to a slight degree is just wrong. If they were stolen from a road side outside a paper shop would you expect the paper shop owner to have cctv and security guard for the benefit of the irresponsible? Leave your car unlocked, and as far as I am concerned.....tough titty! Its not nice I know, but if anyone is daft enough to believe that thieves dont exist and can strike anywhere anytime, then you may as well believe that the golf fairy will put some shiny new ones back if you just pray to god of the 19th hole! It is not the fault of the golf club in any way shape or form, its the fault of the car owner and whoever left their clubs unattended.
Also, golf clubs do not invite seriously expensive cars to the course, golfers turn up in them.
If clubs have cctv or other security its often because members request or demand it for members benefit, or to protect the clubhouse itself, and is at additional expence to the members in fees (not visitors).

In any major city you have increased levels of crime, Liverpool is no exception (probably one of the worst) so cctv at a muni there does not surprise me in the slightest and often reflect the frequency of crime there.

Tend to agree HNJ. My old club had a spate of breakin's so they installed CCTV to pacify the members. I've seen the footage first hand and to say its a waste of time - well you can just about make out the type of car!
One of the reasons I changed my Electric Trolley for a 3 wheel pusher. I can get everything in the boot of my car now (small car) and nothing is on show. At least then my insurance should cough-up if the worst happens.

HNJ, I've not said nor am i holding the club responsible for the theft of the clubs from an unlocked car and i fully agree that its the owner of the cars fault, i'm just aggreived like i said that a well established and expensive club does not have cctv installed in the car park.

As for additional expenses for members to pay for cctv i'm sure they could put an increased levy on pay and play punters as well as societies to recoup any outlay they make.

Liverpool is no worse than many other big cities when it comes to crime neither, unfortunately its everywhere!

We raised over 3k which was good.

we have big electronically operated gates about half a mile from the clubhouse so unless your let out you'd have a great run :) plus there are loads of cctv cameras which are watched by the pro and behind the bar.
however i have a locker so my stuff can only be stolen if my keys are stolen :S

I played Northwood recently, and the car park is a sea of broken glass. They have a security guard, with a dog, from 09.00 to 18.00, and all the tea leaves turn up at 18.15, after he has left.

In my view, securing the car park should have been a priority, before shelling out on 18 new greens, and also, in the long term securing the car park fencing and gates must be cheaper than a guard.

Luckily for me it was their Captains clubs which were stolen, and not mine on the day I was there.

I will not be returning.

It is so easy to steal golf kit at any golf club, someone always leaves their bag unattended and out of view. When golfers go for a pee or drink before a round or comp, you see loads of bags neatly tucked out of the way, against walls or round corners in little clusters, rarely out in the open. I could casually grab a trolly full of clubs and walk off to my car without anyone noticing on a regular basis, and most lockers need no more than a screwdriver to effect entry.
When I go in the clubhouse for something I leave my kit in someones care or in my view.

I know when I visit a club that has little or no security conciousness, simply by how observant and aware people are when you arrive and parade around. Also by how they behave, an example of this was at Belton woods where some golfers were nearly 50yds or more away from their bags while chatting or on the putting green.

If I can work out how to nick something with ease, then thieves can, if you can't see how thieves can pinch stuff, then you are a likely target in many cases.

I'd like to think most people have a certain degree of integrity certainly at a private members club like mine. I think the fact that you can't get out of the gates (which are by the practrice ground/1st tee) woithout the code or a token is certainly a huge deterrent. Anyone walking to the gates carrying a bag or wheeling a trolley is likely to get some funny looks and defintiely challenged.

That said its our practice ground that is potentially the greatest risk. There is access from outside the security gates and so if I'm at one end picking up balls there would be nothing to stop a car pulling up, chucking my bag in and driving off before I could do anything at all. I tend to leave my stuff by the practice bunker out of sight from the road. Not ideal but better than nothing

Its a shame that most cars now are hatchbacks. They provide easy access to the clubs when parked in the carpark during post round drinks.
Did anyone buy a car with a boot with your babies (clubs, not real infants) security in mind?

My father in law bought a VW passat Saloon so he could fit his clubs in horrizontally. without having to take the driver out of the bag. I have to say that it works perfectly and leaves plenty of room for suitaces aswell. and every thing is out of sight

To be fair, they could have CCTV footage of the scrote holding up a placard with his name and address on it and it still wouldn't make a blind bit of difference in a) getting your stuff back or b) the scrote being charged with anything.

Modern Britain I'm afraid and it's one of many reasons why I can't wait to get out of it.
