hi, i'm new to the forum, (been lurking a while though). been playing just under a year.I'm currently playing at local club which offers only "affiliate membership". The fella thats owns it is open to admit he is only interested in your money, no pro, almost no shop a few 2nd hand balls and a fridge. The course is good, the greens very good, but im playing 3 times a week and spending up to £60/week on green fees through summer. I really want (and im going to) attempt to join a local members club, BUT what i struggle with is when reading calendars etc....

inter club comp...... restricted tee times
ladies am/am .........course closed
juniors inter club.... restricted tee times 3pm -5.30pm
etc. etc.
I appreciate this is what being a club is all about, but i cant help feeling that i'd be spending on green fees cos you cant get on!!!!!!!

Was just wondering what happens with you "members" Thanks!

There are always compromises to be made whatever club you join but most, if not all, clubs provide plenty of playing opportunities for members, otherwise they would not have any members! The upside is that you will meet other members through 'roll-ups' or 'fiddles' or whatever your choice of club calls them, and through those members you will get more enjoyment from your golf and tips and encouragement along the way...at least that's my experience.

depends how many members they have and what times suit you I guess. £60 a week is 240 a month = premium price. anything less is a bonus.

From your location you are in the Hull/Grimsby area? Maybe folks from that way can give some recommendations

I think most member clubs try to limit societies and avoid weekends. I haven't find any problems with access at either my current club or one beforehand - roll ups/competitions etc more than make up for the few occasions when you have to sneak on the back nine to avoid the occasional mixed boredoms (five hour nightmares usually undertaken by the blue rinse brigade at 30 yds per shot with defibrilator at the ready)

hi, playing at "the lincolnshire golf course" formerly known as hirst priory. The area is between Doncaster and scunthorpe. Local courses would be the likes of ashby decoy, elsham , holme hall, bawtry, thorne, forest pines££,grange park messingham , normanby hall, and at a push ping gainsboro. thanks!
