I was at the range the other day, using my Ping G15 driver with stiff Grafalloy Prolaunch red shaft hitting balls to the top of the fence (sorry, not over as it was as string headwind - well maybe one or two over).
By chance I also had with me Mrs Golfy's Cobra driver, with a grip way too small and a women's flex. After one hit and realignment to allow for the soft flex, guess where the balls were landing (hitting)? Just short of my G15. Ditto a friend's 20-year-old God-knows-what driver with shaft so soft it felt like Indiana Jones's whip - same place.
Same with irons. Comparing my precisely fitted +0.5 inch, 3deg upright, Dynamic Gold S300 Ping S56s with orange (thicker) grip, I hit Nike SQs, regular flex, standard grip, standard lie, standard length. Guess where? Same, if not a little further than my fitted clubs.
So the question: Are fitted clubs over-rated, or have I missed something?
