Club distances

Wow i never new how many people new there exact yardage for each club!!!

For me i know how far i hit each club by looking at the shot the wind at goswick is never the same so knowing exact yardages is pretty much pointless so when i stand over the shot i look at it and go from there. No wind i would say i hit my driver about 280+.

[/QUOTE] longest carry i've hit was 340 no wind no run.

Where was that- on the moon? ;)

No wind, no run? To fly it 340 you could be on tv in those long drive contests....seriously :p

I've seen a few drives out that far but usually on a hard running links with a tailwind and a good 50 yards of roll.

Are you sure you've got those numbers right? - the vidoes on youtube don't look like you've the swing speed to be carrying that far - no offence.

it is a bit funny Alec to hit the driver 150 and the driver 250 you must really go after the driver and hold back on the irons. I'd did the measuring using a yardage wheel its important to have flat ground and try and do it on a very calm day.

I'm confused :D

Of course we should all realise that hitting a club consistently the same distance (whatever the distance) is the most important thing!

This game is all about control.

Golf is not about how good your good shot is but how good your BAD shot is! ;)

AG Spot on 100 percent.

You can work on your game as much as you like but it is how good your bad ones are that will determine your score.

Agree 100%. I can make pars and birdies til the cows come home. What I can't seem to do is eliminate the doubles and occasional triple that ruin the card.

Canfordhacker, i am the same i had 2 or 3 rounds last year where double bogeys and the occasional triple totally wrecked my cards i went up 1.4 in 14 comps and 10 of them i was 1 off playing to my handicap.

And it comes back to what is being said if the bad shots which are inevitable are better the double/triple should be eliminated.

Problem I've got is that the only place I can do this is on the course. No grass practice ground anywhere local and the ranges don't allow you to venture out into the field - and anyway there are a million other balls out there so I'd never find mine.
On course, I wouldn't be able to hit more than about 5 balls and I'd be halfway through measuring them when the next group appears on the tee.
Do you have a GPS device? if you do, you could measure your distance over a few rounds by measuring individual shots as you go around the course using the ball mark/distance measure function. It may take a few rounds and probably a note book as you will need to note down the club and distance of the shot and then work out the average at home when time allows.

Not ideal I know but one possible solution

Yeah - in the process of doing this but Jeez it takes an age when you only hit 80 shots a round and 32 of them are putts! :p

Ill take the 4th hole on my course its a par 3 168mtrs(183yards) and i nearly always hit a 5I off the tee unless its wind into my face and i hit a 4I....Mike i too have about 10-12 yrds between clubs but then i have Wilson Staff Di7's and i know the lofts of these have strong lofts I think my 5I has a loft of 25.5 deg
I hit my PW 130 yards and each respective club thereafter in 10 yard distances
I play off 20 at the moment hoping this will soon change. :)

I work on 140 for 9 iron up to 200 for 3 iron but the only clubs I've ever measured are my wedges which were 126 (pw) 106 (52) and 85 (56).

According to SS2 I miss the green equally short, long, left & right so my yardages can't be too far out, plus I don't suppose I hit consistently enough to worry about 3 or 4 yards either way.

I measure my clubbing on the practice ground by hitting a dozen balls in flat calm conditions then walking out into the middle o the grouping and using my Bushnell pinging a yardage back to my golf bag......simples!!! :D

I'm confused too! 150 5-iron and 250 driver is quite an odd pair of distances. :D
