Club considering BRS

Agree its quality if its properly monitored/enforced. At ours people often always book the same times, then don't turn up and don't cancel the time. The club are also guilty of just marking enormous blocks as "booked" with no note and if you just turn up at those times there is nothing happening which is really frustrating

How has it got to do with how its set up? How can it be "set up differently"?

The system is really flexible and clubs decide what they use it for, how far in advance people can book, how comps are set up on it etc.

People blame BRS on here a lot but, and I've seen it set up very well at mine luckily, it is how the clubs operate the system that causes the problems.

Obviously some clubs don't want or need it (or any booking system) which is absolutely fine, those that are considering it should make sure they understand how they can best set it up for their needs.

I think even members of clubs where one doesn't exist and/or they don't like the idea would be pleasantly surprised at how it can be used.

Not to say they'd still want it right enough but usually you get the "internet rules" of ridiculous extremes (on both sides) of this argument.......

See Iains post #11 for how it works at ours. I've also posted before about it on BRS moans.

At ours we can only book one week in advance and can only book out one tee time plus add up to three others to that time. Can't block off whole groups of tee times as an indivdual. Some tee times are reserved for members and some are open to visitors. Competitions can not be booked online via BRS.

I would not join a club where there wasn't a booking system. I DO NOT want to hang around on the first tee on a Saturday morning waiting for a time to go out.

If you know your diary a week in advance thats great, i rarely know mine a day in advance!!!!

And yes the club have utilised it to sell more tee times to non members (often at vast discounts) meaning that a lot of the times when i want to play the course is rammed full of pay and play at a tenner a pop. But I cant change that! As a member it has diminished the value I get from my membership and is one of several contributing factors to this being my last year there.

Ideally the next club I join wont have a booking system in place

But I could still decide tomorrow to play and would be able to get a tee time. What do you do when you need to make say a dentist appointment? I have to book mine over 6 months in advance!

Again, it's your club that's decided to let loads of people on as pay and play at a tenner a time. Ours doesn't.

It is, but its been totally exacerbated by the introduction of the BRS. Im pleased it works for you, it doesnt for me

As for the dentist thats once every few years, i play golf a far lot more often

Just looked at ours, take tomorrow for eg, i cant get a game between 8.30 and midday basically. Im not an early bird so my only option is I play middayish (likely on my own as no one else just rocks up for a game anymore) and follow round some groups of 4 balls in freezing conditions. Probably a good job im going to a funeral.....

Our club is quite a busy one for tee times midweek and worse at weekends. The system works really well for us and each day mon-fri there is a dedicated members hour which is still bookable but means no societies etc can book over it which keeps most folks happy.
For most clubs to consider the system they must feel that the current paper or noticeboard system is getting out of hand or could be improved.
If people feel they should be able to just turn up and play, this should make no difference, itll not magically make the course full to capacity, rather it makes things more organised so you know thst when you turn up, you will have a space and not have to hang about for an hour for a game. At our place we can book ourselves or call the proshop, the average age of our membership is over 58 y/o and BRS is well regarded. We did withdraw from the cheap slots being sold off by golfnow to receive cheaper use of the system as it wasnt doing the club any favours. I honestly can't see any downside to it unless your club has a very poor turnout on the first tee daily. To me it gives you more freedom as I know exactly when I need to turn up rather than allow a window of time.

We use it our and its great. Most of our comps are draw and the time slots are just blocked out for that and the rest available for all that want them. We also use it for non-drawn comps and it seems to work well other than the fact that you don't know if someone is playing in the comp or just out for a friendly game which can be confusing. I usually just put myself down for a tee time by myself then let others add on to it.

Works really well at our club and for me personally as I only live 10 minutes away. For example if I fancied a quick 9 holes now I can look online and see the course is free.

We can book up to a week in advance, one tee time per day. If you need anything out of the ordinary you can phone the pro shop or office who have administration rights to the system and add special requests.

Competitions are blocked out when on but again you can phone up and see if they can slot you in somewhere
