Club comps

Now I'm really confused....

I think he's trying to say the same thing as I was earlier.

Going up 0.1 isn't the stressful part/issue for the majority of people playing golf.

There are exceptions, and the most common I see is those on 5.4 (if you are trying to qualify for an elite amateur event - let's say you are off 0.5 and need to get to scr to get in- it can obviously get even more stressful as each round is effectively a qualifying event against the course).

Obviously if Homer got to 9.4 the next round would be stressful beyond all of this...but that's an exception! :) :)

The very act of playing a comp is no more stressful to average Joe than playing a bounce game with mates (and arguably the latter can actually be the more stressful event!)

As with most things it will always be down to how each person reacts - I have seen and know plenty who find playing in a comp far more stressful than non comp golf - in fact I would hazard a guess that it's the total opposite from what you suggest with what I have witnessed the majority finding a round of golf with a card in their hand and the HC on the line for more stressful

Agreed
How many times do we hear that someone plays well until they have a card in their hand.....?

If the truth be told, there shouldn't be any stress involved in playing a comp, after all its just a round of golf, but for many people this is simply not the case

I have to admit that in my younger days in Club membership, I would crumble in the competitions, and I mean really crumble. From shooting regular 95's, 96's etc to 110,120 in the monthly medal. Maybe it was my age or lack of confidence in my ability I don't know but I was terrified on every tee!
I am joining a new club this week for the first time an around 15 years, so hopefully all my competition nerves are behind me.

The more qualifiers the better for me, I have 4 this week, one at my own place, 2 singles opens and a Lancashire competition, I might get 4 0.1s but I also have 4 chances to reduce.

We have the first tee booked out from 8.00-11.00 (depending on numbers) when we have Saturday or Sunday comps. You can go out up until 7.30 if you don't want to play in the comp, can go out and play the back nine, or wait until 11.00 for the tee to reopen. Is there really pressure in a comp? I want to do well every time I play and want to get cut. Play well and the cut takes care of itself. To be honest I have the same attitude in social games and want to take the cash and do as well as I can. If I play badly and get 0.1 back then I'll be frustrated but I'll be back next week to try again
