You have an egg timer fixed to your trolley? Do you cook eggs on the golf course? Boiled eggs take longer than 3 minutes. Have you ever timed it to check it is accurately 3 minutes?

I have a big analogue ticking stopwatch that I click when we start. I then call out a time update every 30 seconds so the group knows how the search is going. When we get to the last 30 seconds I start singing the music from countdown out loud.

I watch the sun. Once it has moved appreciably in the sky my guess is that 3 minutes have probably elapsed.

Then we all add in the, how important is it that I/PlayingPartner find this ball, correcton factor.

That changes the speed of time in an Einsteinian way :
- Doesnt matter - 3 minutes runs out faster.
- Matters to my opponent but my card is rubbish - time extends to 5 normal earth minutes.
- Its my ball, the Captains prize, I am about to post a winning score, and it will be my best ever - time slows so that the 3 mins now take a standard 8 earth minutes, while the group behind gets increasingly infuriated - time has not slowed down for them unfortunately, and they are tapping their watches to signal this.

I use a Cesium atomic clock I find stopwatches distressingly imprecise and feel the rules may be incorrectly applied if a stopwatch is used.

Of course I‘ve not actually got an egg timer attached…just musing on an easier and cheap alternative to singing Happy Birthday 18 times.

I have the Speaking Clock on speed dial, I just give her a quick ring and then put my phone on speaker so everyone can get the benefit. I don't know why everyone has to make it so complicated.
