Civil Partnerships came in a few years ago for gay couples. Today a hetrosexual couple tried to get CP available for themselves rather than get married. Now, I don't quite understand the difference between marriage and CP so can someone explain? I couldn't work out why they were brought in in the first place those few years ago but took very little notice in all honesty.

A quick google suggests that civil partnerships don't share all the same rights.

Having said that, the official doc with comparisons only appears to have to differences. You can divorce a marriage for adultery and if when the marriage took play either partner had an sti. Neither of those our grounds for dissolving a Civil partnership.

The cynic in me thinks either one of them has a shady history, or they're just seeking attention and doing things differently.

From what hat I recall when they first came in, they were a kind of offering to appease people so why someone would choose not to wed if they could is hard for me to understand.

I think for some marriage is too religious, despite the fact you can have a non-religious marriage ceremony.

It does seem strange that we need two things.

In an "ideal" world there would just be a religious and non religious version of the same thing.

Why we can't have that I have no idea, why we need to de-religion one thing but keep its religious connotations and then go on to create a weaker non religious one... makes no sense!

I've been following it through the day and to my uneducated view the CP needs to be scrapped, I can't see the point of it. If you want to be married get married. If you don't then don't. Clearly gay people had no choice for a while but that has now gone so it serves no purpose. I can't help but think the two people involved today are wanting their moment in the sun.

I don't think a registry office service is religious. I might be wrong but I think that is a straight down the middle non religious service.

Simple really this. Under current law Civil Partnerships are between a couple of the same sex. Want it any other way the law has to be changed.

For true equality, if homosexuals are allowed civil partnerships and marriage, then hetrosexuals should have the same rights.

Although I thought we were moving towards not classing people by the gender they were born as.

So there is no homosexual or hetrosexual, you are a person who likes other person.

Simple answer is to abolish CP's. Every couple has the chance and legal standing to get married, ergo no need for CP. You want to declare your devotion and have legal position for your partner or kids....get married, it's that simple.

I watched a short piece on this a few weeks back, so may not be the same couple. Shouldn't make quick judgments (but where is the fun in that), she came across very much as look at me, look at the publicity and he seemed quite disinterested and going along with it for a quiet home life.

Surely you mean The Sun 😄
