Realise that this should perhaps be in another section but trust the moderators understand.

Just wondereing how Mr Tappin is and how he has adjusted to such difficult circumstances?

My heartfelt thoughts are with you and your family

i did wonder the same, i filled in the online petition in hope that it would be a positive outcome, i take it from the above content it wasnt the outcome we had hopped for.

I think the first court appearance was scheduled for yesterday

Hopefully the media will keep up the pressure , Fingers crossed someone will see sense

Fragger

Google is your friend. Court case rescheduled for 7.30pm (GMT) today. At this hearing the charges will be made, there will then probably be an application for bail heard later this week. Keeping my fingers crossed he makes bail!

received this today from Nick Cleggs office.............basically nothing but a promised review

Thank you for contacting Nick Clegg MP regarding the extradition of Christopher Tappin. I am replying on Nick’s behalf.

Nick quite understands the strength of feeling that Mr Tappin’s case has generated. However, it would not be appropriate for Nick, in his role as Deputy Prime Minister, to comment further on this specific case. It is the responsibility of the Home Secretary to decide on individual extradition cases.

However, you may be aware that Nick has long had a strong interest in the issue of extradition more broadly. Following the Extradition Review in October 2011, Nick and the Liberal Democrats raised a number of concerns regarding Lord Baker’s conclusions about the standard of proof needed to extradite people between Britain and America, and therefore believed that a second opinion was required.

In light of this, Nick asked Sir Menzies Campbell QC MP to set up and chair a panel to examine the issue of extradition between Britain and the United States. Other Liberal Democrats with an interest in the workings of the UK-US extradition will also serve on the panel. The panel will examine the specific issue of the difference between “probable cause” and “reasonable suspicion” (the Baker Review having concluded that there is no substantial difference between them) and will also consider practical solutions to correct any imbalances. The findings will be released at a later date.

Thank you once again for making Nick aware of your concerns on this matter.
Best wishes,

Rory Belcher

I got exactly the same!!

yes I don't think any of us expected a personal reply but at least there are numbers showing support, I doubt there would be a panel chaired by Sir Menzies Campbell if there was only a few people shouting about it.

Fingers crossed Mr Tappin gets the right outcome soon.

Just watched Mr Tappins wife and son live on BBC 24 as they were talking to MP's about the case. It seems he is only allowed out of his cell for 1 hour per day and they have taken all his reading material. Also it seems the prosecution deem him a flight risk so are pushing for him not to get bail.
To say these comments provoked a reaction with my colleagues who were watching is an understatement. We all agreed it's a shameful situation that someone can be taken to Texas without any kind of review of the case against him here.

So did I.

I still haven't had a reply from the Home Secretary which should perhaps be a bit more informative seeing as how Clegg's office state that extradition is her responsibility.

What I cant understand is why the media have only really caught on to the case properly, once he was extradited. If they gave it more coverage before the flight he may never had to go. Also his wife was giving evidence to the government select committee yesterday, why not wait to see what she had to say first?

Lets be frank, once he was on the plane the Americans are never going to send him back until the've finished their judicial (and flawed) process

I was wondering the same. Even the heads up from Mike only came a few days before the deadline. the media only seemed to pick up on it about 2 days before , if it could have been, it should have been pushed sooner. I'm not having a go at Mike for that, there may be many reasons why it didn't come out sooner, just saying that more time may have been more beneficial.

I did just hear Christopher Tappin mentioned on radio 1 news but missed the story. Thouchts still with Neil and his family.
