Christmas dinner

I do squat, I'll be sat in my chair supping some real ale and then some red wine with my dinner made by the wife.

I might push myself to sort out my own cheese a big later after an afternoon nap though.

Just the brother in law coming around for the day as the wife lost the last of her parents this year and I have no family so it's a very small affair.

It'll just be immediate family so me, the mrs and 2 kids, thats it. Cooking for 2 adults and 2 kids is not very tasking (we do it every day!) and I'm not a big turkey fan (wanted beef on bone but told no) so it'll be standard Christmas fare. As long as there's plenty sherry, red wine and scotch handy it'll be fine. Actually like brussels sprouts, love parsnips too and roasties. Not fussed for trifle, Christmas pud is alright but prefer the savoury stuff.

Must get the dog out to the beach though, sitting around all day does not create a good appetite.

Will see family over New Year instead, prefer being at home for Christmas so I can slob out unjudged!
Have pets too so moving is a palaver.

Quite fancy eating out but the kids would just play up having had 2 hours sleep so best avoided!:o

14 of us out to lunch at a local hotel courtesy of the in laws. As I am a can't cook won't cook person it will save my wife and M in L from all the chores.

Nice relaxing time staying with my daughter in her big old farmhouse in Galloway, lovely big dining room, open fires, stargazing at night, country walks, no cooking, washing up etc. bliss.

We have done the big Christmas thing for the last 20 years, 14 sitting at the last one two years ago. Their turn now;)

Oh........ and a nice bit of beef from the coos that used to surround their house last summer

Turkey sandwiches and a bag of crisps in work

. Prepared on the Saturday ?

me I do the cooking.when the kids were toddlers I used to go to the pub for three pints in me naff polyester jumper and come back stinking of fags.. Fall asleep and miss half the day. Missis T in the kitchen and playing with the kids all day. It was crap. So I said " stuff it am doing Crimbo dinner" and have done it ever since. Pa in law who is an old fashioned drinker was gobsmacked I did not want to leave me Missis/ his daughter in the kitchen all day.
So Tashyboy has got an old dvd of Jamie Oliver's about how he cooks his dinners. Love that dvd bar the sprouts bit.
We have drawn the short straw and in laws are coming over Crimbo day. He has hinted that it is one of his best sessions of the year. Missis T said " well you will be having a session on yer own coz Tashyboy will be playing wi Bradley and Layla after his dinner".

Bootle of Dom Perignon for breakfast
Seafood to start, with a nice Berry Bros Puligny Montrachet
Roast Beef for the main (fillet & a 2 rib of beef) with a couple of bottles 1997 Gruaud Larosse
Xmas pud with some Dominican rum

Fall asleep

As you can tell I enjoy enjoying Christmas and always splash out on a few nice bottles.
I will do most of the cooking, with some assistance from my Mum for starters and Pud and my Dad for the main course. My Sister can do the pots afterwards while I "rest".

hmm, think this wine list works for me (especially the montrachet!)

For us for the first time in what must be 20 years me and mrs fundy are having lunch at my dads, have no idea whats planned but cant wait!

Luckily my meals are prepared by someone else. My mam takes care of lunch and the mother in law knocks a buffet up early evening. So I'm free to slurp on booze and play/assemble with my daughters toys. Me and the old fella even get out for a few beers before lunch - a tradition from since I was 16.

Breakfast: A couple of extra prepared roasties mashed up inside some crispy bread, with a few pigs in blankets and chestnut stuffing. Possibly my favourite meal of the year.

Lunch: Turkey, beef rib, pigs in blankets, braised red cabbage, sprouts etc etc. Homemade Yorkshires are a must.

Buffet: Loads of lovely treats. I'm normally still pretty full but can't resist picking at bits all night long.

Boxing Day breakfast/lunch: Bubble and squeak with leftover meat and crispy bread (and brown sauce).

This year as Mrs SILH is recovering from surgery we are going to have our Christmas dinner at the golf club - not that I wouldn't have done it - she just doesn't want us spending all our time between now and then shopping.

But I have already prepared our Christmas Eve dinner. Slow cooked marinaded brisket with pickled walnuts in a Guinness and port gravy. Accompanied by braised red cabbage with apple and spices; spuds.

HID will have it all under control. A brilliant cook and we've the in laws over to enjoy it with us. Can't wait. Bucks fizz and croissants for brekkie, home made sausage rolls mid morning and then the big event about 1.00

Yes! That's us coming to your gaff next year! Thats my kind of day!!

More than welcome, I'm usually half jaked by the time dinner is served so anyone could be there ;) Roast dinners are my favourite meals so enjoy cooking them tbh, Christmas dinner not much different and enjoy having a house full of family/friends.

Mrs done the food and booze shopping tonight while I finished work so we could survive until February now I think! Presents all sorted, out all day golfing and drinking tomorrow. Can't wait :)
