I didn’t get too far into it but was pleased to hear him say that once he’d processed the diagnosis, and prognosis, he realised we all die anyway. Cancer is a very emotive word and, initially, comes with an all encompassing “oh my god!” Although it often impacts on our lives, it doesn’t have to define how we live every aspect of our lives. We may not be able to do x, y, z but we can always find other fulfilling things.
Mrs H watched it till the end but it was too raw for me. A couple of hours before the programme aired I got news that one of my bowling buddies had succumbed to lung cancer. We’d spoken a couple of days back knowing that time was short but we’d hoped to catch up over Christmas.
Once I realised Sally Nugent wasn't going to make herself the star of the show I was drawn in. What a man. What a couple. What an amazing love story too. So many upbeat emotions despite the awful hand they've been dealt. If ever someone deserved to be called "Sir".
