Chickenpox as an adult

I thought you could only catch chickenpox once , once you have had it the chickenpox virus remains for life in your spine , in good health your body can keep it there , but if you get weak /run down / stressed etc , the virus can come out but it will be as shingles . I believe the virus is stored in one side or the other of the spine and whatevever side it is , is the side you will get shingles , hence the myth that if the rash goes right round your body you die ( because it cannot) . When i was a child if someone got chickenpox ,they would have a chickenpox party , all the mums would take their kids there in order for them to catch it and get it done with , as its much less severe in children . Catch it as an adult and it can be life threatening (one of our school teachers died of it when i was young).

I was over the moon at getting chicken pox at the age of 13. Three weeks in the sunshine in the back garden getting tanned and I went from being 13 stone with a 36 inch waist to 10.5 stone with 30 inch waist in that short period, just as my interest in girls started.

My mum was not amused though as it meant every item of clothing no longer fitted me.

My son is now covered in the things, even his todger... poor lad. I'm still showing no signs of getting it, maybe I'm immune or maybe it's the calm before the storm.....
