Hey all

I'm nearly 39 and never had chicken pox....my 6 year old son (it seems) has got 3 spots come up on his back/shoulder this morning. Half of his year at school (14 kids) have had it in recent weeks.

So I'm sitting in the office at work and starting to scratch....which I know is psychological.

So come on, lets hear the horror stories..... let me know how bad the next 10 days or so could be for me.

Had it full blown for 3 times. Worst was as a youngster, and had a cluster of about 8 under my armpit. Very painful.
As an adult I understood it often turned into shingles, which can be horrendous.

It's called Shingles in adults, can be very painful and dangerous to us over 70. The NHS offer a vaccination for it and the Flu, for us golden oldies.

I've had chicken pox as a kid and shingles when I was 27. Neither was particularly distressing, indeed I only knew I'd had the shingles for sure as it was basically gone when a friend diagnosed me upon seeing my shirtless when I was getting changed for a round of golf!

Years ago, the old neighbour of ours had it. It left him blind in one eye, and semi paralysed down his left side. It was veru nasty.

My wife had it a couple of years back, not fun for her at all..... (or me) I suggest some kind of medically induced coma for a fortnight ;)

My wife and I both have had shingles, I had it mildly and she had it pretty awful (in the mouth and eye etc). Our new grandson had chicken pox last week and was ok in a couple of days

Its still chicken pox as an adult if you have not had it before, i was 22 when i had chicken pox. I'll be honest, it was crap. ended up off work for 2 weeks!!

Could you play golf if you have it? (asking for a friend.)

Had Shingles in my mid 20's after having chicken pox as a child. Sore, very sore but no long term ill-effects unlike some others so I'll count myself lucky.

i have had shingles three times ,its not pleasant and it is quite painful. the spots avery nasty little buggers and take about a week or so to eventually go away.

Like you hadn’t had it before until 2 years ago when my son kindly passed it onto me at 34....it’s bad! The sports get everywhere and I mean everywhere. I was stuck in bed for 3 days just couldn’t bring myself to get up and was 2 weeks until my energy levels where something like normal. Eating and drinking was painfully due to sports in my mouth walking hurt as they where on the soles of my feet. Didn’t help that I’d recently been promoted at work so was still having to try and do what I could from home which I think slowed the recovery down by a couple of days. One other little pointer don’t use ibuprofen.

I got chicken pox, after my daughter got it, in my mid 40s. High temperature for a couple of days, before coming out in spots. Wasn’t pleasant, but nowhere near as bad as expected. Was back at work after a week.
