Cheats?

The guy who I used to regularly play with always cheats. I dont know why as it was only ever friendly games we played and wasnt for money. It was always stupid things like lying about the shot he was on and dropping another ball when he couldnt find his and claiming that was the ball he had played. Annoys me as we wernt even keeping scores for the round, hes just a compulsive liar and cheat in life I think.

I played in a charity golf day once with the guy who had organised it and had been captain at the same club. In the morning 18 hole singles he lost a few balls off the tee and decided to take a penalty drop from where he thought his tee shot (and provisional) might be. He didn't add on some of the penalties either, although I wasn't marking his card. It appeared just as a "face saving" move as he never got near the prizes.

In the 9 hole 4 man team Texas Scramble in the afternoon he took 6 of my drives but told a pal of mine, when asked, that all teams had to play 2 drives from each player with a spare from anyone! I only found this out after we had come in the top 3 and, rather than upset a charity event, I just dropped my prize trophy in the bin before I left and vowed never to play in it again. Enquiries later suggested that if you didnt cheat you couldn't win a prize as all the top scorers cheated in one way or another

Maybe I am just cynical but I've seen more people cheat on charity days than any other type of event. Its almost a win at all cost mentality and that becaue its for a good cause it somehow absolves any blame. I've seen people play from outside an out of bounds fence, chuck a ball down in the proximity of a lost ball and even give a putt.

Only heard this so not sure of how true but local club having last round of captains prize..1 guy was leading well & obviously playing in last group , friends decided to video bits of it .. guy blew up anyhow & finished 5th . presentation was over & drinks been had when someone decided it be good idea to have a peek at the video .. they decided to feed it into the bar tv .. when they were videoing their mate there was a guy in the backround on an adjoining hole kicking his ball from behind a tree.. wasnt it only the guy that had just been presented 1st prize.. he was there watching it aswell .. he was stripped of prize & thrown out of club & reported to GUI.. delighted for him ..

There was a guy in Derry (I think) somewhere that won captains day or something but at the presentation the guys he was playing with couldn't believe he won, what he had done was at the end of the round he said he would stick the cards in and changed all the doubles to pars.

How do you expect not to get found out?

Wow I'm shocked at some of these stories!! I once miscounted on a hole and was corrected by a partner and felt awful like I was cheating although it was a genuine miscount. I'm talking high numbers like took 8 but shouted 7 in a friendly game but still felt terrible!! These people have no shame argue they are right even though they have been rumbled!! Shocking!
