changing to or getting Virgin Media TV- think again

Err, no, you don't!

Not free exactly but it formed part of my XL TV package at not extra cost.

I am far happier with Virgin. Broadband is superb and the fact that the TV is cable means it is not affected by adverse weather. Because the box is rented as well it means that there are no call out costs should you need repairs. The TIVO system is head and shoulders above that on the last Sky box I had. Sky Atlantic is a downside but anything I miss I can pick up on a box set in the sales. Sky Sports is less of an issue for me as I ditched it when the rugby Premiership went to BT. I do not watch that much football and so having Sky Sports for just European rugby made no sense (and even that is split next year). If BT could get some golf rights there really would be no need for Sky Sports.

Sky go and the golf in HD are the only things that stop me switching to virgin, i have their telephone and internet and have had it for almost 20 years but their TV has never been a patch on what sky do but it's getting better.

Virgin Anywhere same as SkyGo???

The Virgin planner isnt a patch on the SKY one (dont see why virgin dont implement the smart SKY planner features).

Apart from the fact it takes at least 4 'clicks' to get your fav channels the other bugbear is if you record a show and it starts later due to the previous programme overrunning, or your show over runs as its live (play off holes, penalty shoot out etc) then Virgin misses either the beginning or the end. Sky only records when the show starts and records until it finishes.

on a positive note though I can record 3 programmes at once, only 2 on Sky and one of them needs to be the channel your watching!

True, but when setting up the live stuff it does remind you it's live and offer you the option to add up to 3 hours extra to account for overrunning.

No idea what sky is like, but for me tivo fulfills almost everything I need. Setting up recordings on my ipad, series recordings that just seems to work, tivo suggestions seems to know what I like and records it for me, watching bt sports on my ipad when others are watching the main tv (once again its sky that limits what can be shown from its channels)

I'm happy with TIVO, but it's never recorded a programme without me choosing. How does that work?

so you set up 3hrs extra for any live event- lots of clashes and planner full in a week with that, lets say it starts late as live events sometimes do, sky would start mins before the event, tivo records when it was suppost to start not actual. its basic tech, surprised they havent got it right yet
