Once again major work on the course on a Tuesday. Must just be a coincidence that it's the day of the Ladies Competition. Anyway...today the greens were sanded and swept mid competition. Early groups would have had sand on first 6 or so holes. Mid groups on a couple of holes and everyone else none.

I assume that contravenes the rules of holding a qualifying competition?

I'm afraid it doesn't. However, it is recommended that it be declared non-q beforehand if significant course maintenance is anticipated.

You comps sec should arrange with the head greenkeeper to be kept in the loop re such work. Our green keeper has a diary of all midweek comps.

That's fine - thanks. Frustrating more than anything else - I almost made my feelings clear in the sand...after putting out!!

The reality is, they would never dream of doing that on the Saturday of a men's competition, so you have a very good point.
Do they ever do that type of job on Saturdays? It's normally skeleton/weekend crews on Saturday and Sunday.

But I agree that it wouldn't happen on a Friday before a major.

That's the problem with golf these days.

Saturday shouldn't be 'mens' competition, it should be 7 day members competition

Or if there are specific comps being run during the week, say Tuesday and Wednesday, then arrange the work for Monday or Thursday, or the following week.

Can understand the frustration - but our club has comps on 6 of 7 days a week ( none on a Friday) so someone up is bound to find maintenance on the go. For example they were raking bunkers yesterday - so you could get one freshly raked or untended for a while

Comps Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Our first qualifier too. Paid for 4 months golf without any reduction and then this on our first chance to have a comp. I'm about done with the game...

I suspect the point here is that the maintenance 'coincidentally' gets done when the ladies are playing a little more than coincidence should allow for. Mention doing work when the men or seniors have a comp and the greens staff would get short shrift.

Yes, work has to be done but I have seen ladies sections over the years get the short end of the stick regarding this time and time again.

We do the simple thing when such work is planned. All flags get moved to the temporary greens until all work is finished. It means the work is done much quicker with less faffing around by the green staff as they have to wait for golfers to get out of the way.

Are there other clubs nearby that would be a better option?

I'm not sure as I've found it much the same everywhere. The Head and Assistant Greenkeeper were actually quite rude when we asked why it was being done during our competition "because it's in the diary for today".

It really is unfair how we have to accept the course for our competitions when it is never the same for the men. We have zero respect as golfers and users of the course. It's beyond rude.

Played yesterday before big Ladies comp - course pristine
Played today, no comp on, work being done on tees and greens...
You need to move down here..;)
