Changed my mind - H'Cap of 10 by the end of the year

Good luck mate after a few lessons and calming down that slice you'll get there. 220 yards was your carry so it was nearer 250 which is 5 iron distance for most on here bunch of bull s***ers.

Oh and the R11 is superb or are you guys a bit green with envy :D,.

Johnthan your are becoming the next Homer by the way :)

Cheers mate (except for the Homer comment )

I simply like talking about golf and don't like doing work. This place helps tick both those boxes :D

Don't we all mate ,keep us informed how the lessons go mate and good luck

so you want to go from an unofficial 18 to a official 10.... sounds like bloody hard work.

I was going around consistantly to 12, a few 9 overs and most bad games would be 13/14 at worst. so unofficially i put my self off around 12 ish.

then i joined a club and went for my handicap.

* White tee's instead of yellows (add up to 100 yards on some holes)

* Longer approach shots

* Missing greens from a longer distance

* Pressure of knowing its for a h/c

all of a sudden my 3 cards were something like +20, +17, +15.

your be amazed how playing off the whites with a but of pressure can give you a real handicap. bounce games of the yellows are easy and a untrue reflection of a handicap, as proved.

Cheers for the support OS! You're a true gent! :D

I know it's going to be difficult, I've been playing the game 18 years and know how cruel it can be, but I'd rather aim high, it helps keep me motiviated. And now I'm slightly older and have the will power to stay focussed and work on what needs improvement (unlike when I was in my teens and I just played casual rounds, hardly ever entered any competitions and never practiced), I feel that it's achievable, if I'm able to put the work in.

I hope my hcap is better than 18 after I've been playing for 18 years!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Stopped playing regularly for 6 years. :p

Only had maybe half a dozen "casual" games in that time span.

But you're right, I would have given up if I was still off 18 after 18 years of consistent playing! ;)

Erm...Since May last year. But I had American Football commitments last year so only played when I had time (probably less than 20 full rounds of 18 since then).

I'm not playing football this year so I can concentrate on my golf, join my local club, get a handicap and start playing competitively on a weekly basis as well as getting in a few social after work rounds and the odd away day.

Yeh I know a bit, used 2 watch it on sky a lot. Always watched the superbowl with my friend and her American husband, cowboys fans.

I thought the broncos were OK, my great uncle in Canada is a fan so he gave me a few mementos and showed me a few games on TV.

I've reluctant to put too much emphasis on targets after last year when everything was geared around getting single figures and it put way too much pressure on an already fragile game to go out and perform.

I'd like to get there this year but I wouldn't lose any sleep if I sneaked up to 13 or stayed around the 11 or 12 mark. For me its about practicing in short bursts and only on the things that need the work. Again I was so focussed on short game work it has left my chipping in a very bad place. Had I gone out and trusted it on the course I'm sure it would have found its own level.

I agree, aim for the stars, you might just hit the moon!

In other words give yourself a goal you need to give yourself to motivate but do not be upset if you only make partial progress, it is still progress!

See that's the thing, I have something to aim at to focus, but in reality, if I drop down to arround 12 or 14 I'd be more than chuffed!

Aztecs the county coaches say that if you tell everyone your target it's the right thing to do because it means you feel you have to achieve them to not feel like you have let yourself down infront of everyone. So you're doing the right thing, Best of luck :)

I know you'll be trying your best anyway, but the easiest way to get your handicap lower is to shoot low scores on your qualifying rounds.

Sounds obvious but when you're playing for your hcap every shot under +16 is a shot off your handicap. Once you're in a medal every shot under gets you 0.3. Big difference.

I wish I'd have thrown a 79 or 80 in on mine.
