Centurion Club - St Albans

saw Rick earlier and he mentioned you played there. The minute Rick mentioned it you could see his eyes go all mushy like a teenager in love haha.

it might be expensive but for Rick it probably works out around a fiver a round the amount he plays :p

To get it down to a fiver a round, he might need to play 36 every day!

Hosting the wonderfully entertaining PNWokingham on Saturday...36 holes planned......I've warned the pro shop to stock up on balls!!! :o

Looking forward to it Rick - I will bring my balls with me!! It has been nearly 2 months of no-clue golf so I am due a change!!:D This followed by Parkstone on Sunday should be the warm-up for the legendary Cooden meet in a couple of weeks! And I have an aggressive sounding Smiffy threatening to "do us" (me and Chris Waddle) in a few weeks!!

Warning to Locals:
The quiet Hertfordshire countryside is soon to be disturbed by the WHOOSH of practice swings and outlandish 'shorts'! :D

Bring on Dorset!!
Cracking day in Hertfordshire - unless those speed cameras on the M25 actually work - lots of speed-camera signs but none of the variable signs flashing speeds like they do going towards Gatwick. Left Wokingham at 10.15 and was at the Club before 10.55 - nice clear M25 - you don't often hear that!

The Centurion is a great golf course and a very relaxed club with superb service and attention to detail. The main club house is not built yet and the old barn with a couple of posh portacabins are used for the bar, pro shop and changing rooms - the main barn building will stay when the new club house is built and act as a sports bar. The design for the new club house looks really good and may be built by this time next year. We played off the back normal tees - near 6,800 and a par 74 with 7 par 5s - what a fun set up! There are a set of black tees at over 7,000 yards where the par back down to 72, but they are mostly for the pros. The first few holes have a similar loo to Woburn but then it moves to a more open and expansive environment with lots of mounding (landfill) that is done better than I have seen at other courses - the vista of several holes around the eighth is stunning and offers some sorely tempting driving propositions. The greens are stunning - pure bent grass, nice and firm and very true.

We had a four ball against Rick's friend and his guest - and secured a nice victory. A pint and a relaxed lunch followed, then Rick and I went out again for a 2-ball match - he was up for the first 10, then I pulled it back and stole a victory with some great cross-country golf!! :):D. When we arrived back in the club house at 8pm, the other two were still there supping their seventh peronis!! Rick then accompanied them in his car for a curry!!

Rick is a great host as always and after two rounds of coaching, he should be in good form for his 36-hole scratch match tomorrow.:lol::lol::ears::cheers::clap::clap::clap:

Paul,
The pleasure was all mine.....so pleased you enjoyed the course.....especially knowing how good an eye you have for a good design.
The victory in the morning was sweet, but well done on your win in the afternoon......clearly I had to hold back and save myself for the scratch match tomorrow...

Just how you managed to get a par from here will remain forever a mystery!!!

I wish I could mate... but just about run out of holiday......off for a week in Cornwall next week .... Currently trying to overturn the wife's decision that my clubs aren't going with us....

Apparently St Enedoc & Trevose being 2 of the UK's best courses isn't a valid argument.... :o
