Celtic Manor

Great post and a lot of brilliant advice which i shall heed when 40 of us embark on our Celtic Manor adventure in March. One question i hope you dont mind me asking and hopefully someone can answer is the use of electric trolleys. We have been told that there are never any restrictions on trolleys regardless of the weather, however, would we have to use the trolley paths if the weather became to wet to use the fairways ,if this was the case i would rather carry. I'm only asking as my carry bag has seen better days and would have to purchase a new one. Would appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on the matter.

Played all three courses over the years and absolutely love the resort - hospitality is second to none. Twenty ten course is a long trek - expect a 5 hour round. The courses are all good though bunkers could do with some more sand in. They will let you play whatever the weather - last played there in November 13 and it was muddy, so much so that twice I slipped and fell over, but at least we were playing.

I really like Celtic Manor and the Monty is one of my favourite courses. I would say that the 3rd is up there as one of my favourite all time holes.

If it just you and your son, they will pair you up with another 2 players almost definitely. Personally I like to walk both courses, but it can be a trek, so if you have issues walking up hills carrying I would recommend a buggy, even though you have to stick to paths, which can be a pain.

The hotel is nice and my wife said the spa is good. The French restaurant serves lovely food, but I haven't been for a few years now.

A friend of mine went in the summer and said it was full of kids on their holidays, so you might get that as next week is half-term in most places. (don't know if that bothers you or not!)

Would definitely recommend, but it can be pricey even with the packages. Enjoy.

Played at CM yesterday and today and thought would post my thoughts:

Resort hotel is very imposing but lovely and all the staff are so helpful, the "olive tree" buffet at night was poor especially at £30+ a pop, the fact that you can get ferried about was a bonus and rooms were good.

As for the golf played the Montgomerie first very nice course a bit hillly (understand why people suggested a buggy but think a trolley would be as helpful) but great views and not too long.. partnered up with 2 others who were good company but as they were in buggy didn't get too much chance to have a proper chat.

The 2010 was in comparison a bit disappointing its long and majority flat but no real features, 14th and 15th being the exception managed to drive the 15th but 14th had wind in our face so couldn't risk the shot over the water.. greens were great and reception etc when you arrived was first class.. Cant comment on the last as hit my third and it plugged somewhere on right of green and was never seen again .. so picked up ..

Overall a good experience will definetly play it again but maybe give 2010 a miss ..

Agree 100% mate. The resort is pretty good, the facilities and the welcome good. The 2010 is s bit of an anti climax. I'd rather play monty and the Roman road .
